first time coaches to state

Pride in the fact that you get to be a part of a young man (or men) accomplishing something that only a select few in our state get to accomplish. To walk with him (or them) on Friday Night, and feel like you have had a hand in helping to achieve that moment for them, will be the best part. The rest is the excitement, the crowd, and all that Prodigy said also. Enjoy the moment!!! Share it with your guys that fell short of that moment and help to bring them the vision that next year that could be YOU.

Expect a lot of waiting, and a long Friday night.

Agreed.  Lots of waiting.  Be prepared to wait in line outside of the Deleware Street entrance to Banker's Life.  There will be a long line. Be prepared to take a nap while waiting for weigh in.

1. Bring a video recorder of some sort and some cameras while you walk in the parade. (Record everything, it's a moment neither you nor the athlete will want to forget for the rest of your lives)

2. Make it a special moment in your highlight films for future wrestlers to be able to see the sights and surroundings of the fieldhouse.

3. Keep your eyes on the prize. It's one thing to make it to state it's another to make it to saturday!

Best of luck coach!

P.S. Don't worry if you keep doing what you're doing there will be many more trips back to the fieldhouse, and not to watch that silly sport they play with a ball.

Keep the same routine as you've had all season long.  Tell your guys to do and use what got them there.  Being on your feet trying to stay warmed up for the whole round on Friday night can be really draining for kids, so find a place to relax and stay off your feet until you're getting close to going out there.  Also, it's always easy to tell on Friday night the kids who were just satisfied with qualifying versus the ones who are there to win the whole thing.  Good luck!

Take your team out on the mat before the tourney begins and pull out your tape measure and measure the mats in front of them...then say, "I think you will find these are the same size as our mats back in Hickory" ( or Lawrenceburg/North Posey/Cass/Northview/Manchester/Praire Heights/Centervillw, etc.)

Seriously though. McGill is right...enjoy the festivities but dont forget why you are there and what got you there.
