Class 1A IHSWCA State Duals qualifying scores (thru Regional)

Recommended Posts

Here's a 1A State Duals qualifying score update through regional.

In 1A, these scores are now very, very meaningful.  If we knew for sure how everyone will be classified, the 4 semi-state auto bids and the 6 wildcard auto bids would already be clinched.  As it is, there are a couple teams in the top 10 that have a significant chance of being classified to 2A when the new IHSAA enrollment data comes out in March.  There are also a couple of good teams that could come down to 1A that are tentatively listed in 2A.  Because of this, the most interesting thing to look at is the race for those 9th/10th spots and 11th/12th place spots that could end up being the top 10 cutoff when classification happens.

This weekend, first round wins for underclassmen will get you 3 more points and second round will get you another 1 point.  Seniors are done scoring in 1A.

Current semi-state leaders: Prairie Hts, Monrovia, Bremen, Knightstown

Current next 6 best scores: Oak Hill, Adams Central, Centerville, Eastern Hancock, Triton, Tecumseh

Question:  How can teams that still have wrestlers in SS have available points that equal more than 4 points per wrestler?  For instance, LaVille has 3 wrestlers left but 13 available points.  Eastern (Greentown) 4 wrestlers and 24 possible points.  North White 3 wrestlers and 20 points.  Am I missing something?

He is asking how, if an underclassman can can score up to 4 points, can a team with 3 wrestlers score 13 points? (because 3x4=12, and 4x4 does not equal 20)

I understand that.  But if North White has 3 underclassmen and each can score a possible 4 points at SS, why do they have 20 points available?  In my math classes 3 x 4 was 12.

1A schools teach math differently than 2A and 3A schools.  That's why their seniors don't earn any points after regionals.

I think I know this.  In the North White example,  they came out of the Logansport regional that got a quota of 3 SS qualifiers.    So if these wrestlers got 4th, then they havent earned their semi-state points yet.  If they win first round, they earn Semi-state points and also qualifying for 2nd round SS points.

Ahhh.  Ok, I can buy that.  I wasn't sure how that regional rating system worked, but that makes sense.

Nailed it.  If you advanced a 3rd or 4th place guy from a Category 2 regional or 4th place from a Category 3 regional, you didn't get semi-state first round points.  Win in the first round on Saturday and you get upgraded straight to semi-state 2nd round points.

Tiebreaker criteria for the different tourney levels are outlined in the procedures doc: http://www.ihswca.org/news/selection2015

For regional 5th place, it's 1) sectional place, 2) sectional category (for example, one 3rd place guy gets it over another because his sectional was tougher), 3) win%.

Oak Hill would have 150 right now if they were in 2A.

Yes, you would be in 10th place at 150--but you would also have 71 points available at semi-state, more than any 2A team.   Ridgeway and King would get 9 points for first round wins, your other underclassmen would get 5, King would get 4, and your other seniors would get 2.  Second round wins for everybody are worth 2 more points in 2A.
