BLOOMINGTON, IND. – Manchester University tussled with a pair of upper division opponents during a tri-match at Indiana University Saturday, Dec. 13.

The Spartans, dipping to 0-3 in dual action, dropped 47-6 and 46-3 finals to the NCAA Division I Hoosiers and Southern Illinois University of Edwardsville, respectively, inside University Gymnasium on IU's campus. MU's points were gathered by way of a forfeit victory for freshman 125-pounder Ruben Rodriguez, Jr. (Hammond, Ind.) against IU and freshman 165-pounder Matthew Ruddick (Seymour, Ind.) who took a 6-0 decision versus SIUE.

The Black and Gold break from competition until Saturday, Jan. 3, when they join the field at the University of Chicago Duals.

NOTES: Ruddick, according to head coach Matt Burlingame, showed plenty of potential during his first week of collegiate competition. Despite going 1-2, he led D3Wrestle.com top 20-ranked Colt Lovejoy of Ohio Northern 7-4 Dec. 11 before falling 11-9 and proved aggressive early on against IU's Taylor Walsh, ranked No. 3 on the Wrestling International News Division I individual poll for Dec. 8 before Walsh managed a fall … "Overall, although the final scores might not show it, I thought we competed better throughout the line-up Saturday than we did at ONU," Burlingame said.

Junior Josh Juarez (South Bend, Ind.), competing up a weight, proved masterful in a 2-0 shutout of Luis Godines, as he rode out his opponent for the entire third period.
