The Guru
Ersland doesn't seem like much of an upgrade to me. Depends on assistants I guess. This is very disappointing.
MattM
If it is Ersland it may have came down to best coach for Purdue's starting price range. Enticing a regular assistant to agree to a head coaching opportunity in the Big 10 job with Purdue pay scale was probably an easier sell than some of the other candidates who came in expecting more from the University in terms of pay for him and the assistants. Ersland would get a shot at the "big time" much earlier than expected so to him it maybe worth taking the chance on what Purdue was offering. Whereas, some of the other candidates may not have sen Purdue's presentation and pay range as a chance for much more advancement than their current position. Not to say Ersland won't do a decent job if he is the guy, but he may have been a solid candidates that had the easiest purchase price for the school to agree too. I'm sure we are all hoping for a diamond in the ruff situation, but he will have to build a staff and team by finding other lesser known guys who are also wanting an opportunity to prove their value in the Big 10. Disco
Way to go Morgan, good job. An Athletics director with balls. Why sit in mediocrity. Go for it. If it don't work, there's plenty more capable candidates. Look at MSU and IU sitting on their hands. We know where they will be in 3 years. At least hope prevails in WEST LAFAYETTE!!! Any hope for Indiana, Michigan State?
