NWCA/USAW National Scholastic Duals

Recommended Posts

I believe there are 20 teams entered, so this is how I think it will go down.

Five pools with 4 teams each(3 matches)

-Teams will be seeded and they will separate teams from each state, so only one Indiana team per pool

1st place teams will go into the Gold Pool and wrestle eachother for 4 matches

2nd place teams will go into the Silver Pool

3rd place teams will go into the Bronze Pool

4th place teams will go into the Kiddie Pool

So teams will get 7 matches on the weekend.

Pretty good showing so far for Indiana in the 22-team event...Gold will be in the gold pool; Blue currently halfway through a war with one of the good Ohio teams in the prelim pool semi's; Gorillas will be in the silver pool (7-12th place); Region 16 renegades (southern kids) and Renegades gold (northern/central kids) will be in the bronze pool (13-18th).  Region 16 lost a hard-fought 34-24 decision to an Ohio team with 13 state qualifiers and placers.  They should be near the top of the bronze pool.

Indiana Gold up 18-0 in its first Gold Pool match against Virginia.  Ohio, Illinois, Minnesota, Colorado to come.

Blue and Gorillas wrestling against each other right now in their first silver pool match.  Also Region 16 renegades and renegades gold wrestling against each other in the bronze pool.  Lots of interesting matchups between talented Indiana kids happening right now in their first pool matches.

Indiana Gold loses 35-27 to a very strong Minnesota team.  Still an outside shot at a title if the also strong Illinois team can beat Minnesota and Indiana can get the win against Illinois.  Most likely 2nd or 3rd place, though, depending on their result with Illinois.

Indiana Blue is 2-0 in the silver pool, with the Gorillas at 1-1 with a razor thin loss to Blue.  Renegades gold are 2-0 in the bronze pool, including a close win over Region 16 renegades, who are 1-1.

Overall, Indiana teams are 11-5 in matches not against each other.  Out of the 22 teams, we should end up with one team placing 2nd or 3rd, two teams in the 7-9 range, and two teams in the 13-15 range.

There was a tad bit of controversy in the Gorilla vs. Blue team match.

Originally, Clarance Johnson was given a flagrant misconduct and Blue was penalized three team points. About six matches later however the referee came to an epiphany and decided change that to just a regular disqualification and only one team point.

Yet in the 145lbs match the referee admitted to missing some nearfall points, but did not decide to correct his mistake and thus costing a young man and a team the dual match.

You literally have to beat the refs in some of these matches against the "special" teams.

Wow...we've gotten a couple huge wins against Illinois and we've got a great shot to win.  We're up 19-16 and Stevenson is in a war late at 170.  Probably toss-up type matches coming at 182 and 195, then they'll be favored at 220 and we'll have the upper hand with Streck at 285.  Should come down to the wire.

Illinois over Indiana gold 28-26

We get pinned at 220 and then Streck could only get the decision...very tough loss.  We wrestled very, very well.  Streck was good enough to pin his last guy and Harvey and Stevenson lost heartbreakers.  We were right there, for sure.

also lost a tough one at 106 with Konrath getting majored. Harvey has had a tough tournament that's for sure. He only has one win I do believe.

Looks we'll end up winning, but everything possible has gone wrong against Ohio.  Pepple was out so we forfeited 113, Cash lost a tough one, Harvey lost in a tiebreaker, Schurg got stuck after leading by a few points late, Stevenson got DQ'd...you get the picture.  Anyway, they're the worst team in the pool and we'll still slip by.
