NCAA DII COACHES POLL - MAR. 5

 

EDMOND, Okla.- The UIndy wrestling team, fresh off of winning the NCAA Division II Super Region #2 title, is up to #4 in the finale edition of the NCAA Division II Wrestling Coaches Poll for 2013-14, released Wednesday morning.

 

The Greyhounds, winners of a Regional title for the first time in program history, were previously at #14. UIndy earned its first Regional championship Saturday, amassing 125.5 points to win the event by 19.5 points. Topping the final poll is Notre Dame (OH), winners of the East Regional with a tournament-high nine national qualifiers. Nebraska-Kearney, winners of the Central Super Regional, took second in the poll, with Lindenwood in third. The Lions were the runners-up in the Central Regional.

 

In addition to the Greyhounds' team ranking, five UIndy wrestlers are ranked individually in their weight class. At 125, Alex Johns (27-3) is in the #8 spot, after finishing third in his bracket at the regional. Justin Kieffer (24-4) makes his first appearance on the year in the national rankings, at #4 in the 141 weight  class. Kieffer, now a two-time national qualifier, claimed his first Regional Championship on the weekend.

 

Cameryn Brady (34-1), also now a two-time DII qualifier, also claimed his first Regional Championship on the weekend and held at the #7 spot in the 149 rankings. Jeff Weiss (29-6), #6 in last week's poll, moved up to #3 at 165, by virtue of his first Regional Championship and first qualificiation for nationals. Rounding out the Greyhound rankings is #7 Evan Wooding (27-8), who returns to the poll after being ranked in the preseason edition. Wooding, who took third at this weekend's regional, is now also a two-time national qualifier.

 

Joining Johns, Justin Kieffer, Brady, Weiss and Wooding at the 2014 NCAA Division II National Championships will be Josh Kieffer (133) and Shelden Struble (157). The seven national qualifiers ties the most -ever by a UIndy wrestling team. This year's national meet will be held in Cleveland's Pub
