INDIANAPOLIS - All six members of a family caught in a devastating house fire Saturday morning have now died, according to hospital officials.

Two adults and two children were killed, and two other children were critically injured Saturday morning after a fire sparked inside a home on the city's near east side.

The two surviving children, a 14-year-old girl and a 6-year-old boy, were taken to Riley Hospital for Children in "extremely critical condition," according to IFD.

On Sunday it was confirmed that they had passed away as well.

"It is with deep sadness that we confirm the deaths of the remaining two children at Riley Hospital injured as a result of yesterday's fire on Olney Street," said IFD Cpt. Rita Reith in a press release. "Investigators confirm that a time of death has been given.  The family is currently working with the hospital for possible organ procurement."

The fire was reported about 9 a.m. near 21st and Olney Streets, and crews remained at the scene for at least an hour to gain control on the flames.

Indianapolis fire officials said a motorist on the interstate saw the fire and smoke and called for help. Inside the burning home, a man, his wife and their four children were breathing in the toxic smoke. By the time firefighters arrived to put out the flames, all six were clinging to life.

"This is probably one of the most tragic situations we've ever encountered," said IFD Cpt. Rita Reith. "Anytime you have a fire victim it's tragic … but multiple victims, especially when four of them are children."

Firefighters say they were able to put out the fire within five minutes of arriving. They also say the three-bedroom home had no working smoke detectors.

Lionel "Leo" Guerra, 47, Brandy Mae Guerra, 33, and two of their children, Esteban Guerra, 11, and Blanquita Guerra, 8, were pronounced dead at an Indianapolis hospital Saturday. Two other children, 14-year-old Miranda Guerra and 6-year-old Fuentes Guerra, died of their injuries on Sunday.

"They've lived there all their lives," said neighbor Debbie Hanson. "I've been here since age 4, and they've pretty much been here the same time."

Neighbors said the Guerras are part of an extended family living in the near-east side neighborhood, and everyone who heard of the tragedy was stunned

Neighbors say they didn't see the fire or smell smoke from the small bungalow the family shares.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
