The draw for the 19th annual IHSAA Team State Tournament was held today in Indianapolis. The honorable Assistant Commissioner Robert Faulkens conducted the draw, which was broadcast live on IndianaMat.com and watched by thousands of fans across the state.  Each year the Team State draw is another twist in the path towards a state title by Indiana's best teams. 312 teams competed in IHSAA Sectionals this past weekend and each of the top two teams from all 32 sectionals will return to the mat on Wednesday, February 5th. The winner of each 4-team Regional will move on to Semi-State, to be held on Wednesday, February 12th at eight sites across the state. Tomorrow night I will post match scores for the Team Regionals, along with a few match by match breakdowns and other storylines from what used to be one of the best nights of the season.

Next Wednesday I will post the scores and winners for Team Semi-State

In the week between Semi-State and Individual State, I will post a Team State Match each day until we have a Team State Champion on the day before Individual State

****If you miss Team State, or just would like to talk about these hypothetical matchups, please post your thoughts, predictions, and discussions.

If you want to debate something else, please start a different thread and do your arguing there.

Thanks, and I hope you all enjoy.

Now that we have seen the draw, here are the potential matchups on Saturday morning at Center Grove:

#1 Franklin vs. #3 Penn

#4 Perry Meridian vs. #6 Merrillville

#2 Ev. Mater Dei vs. #13 FW Carroll

#5 Yorktown vs. #7 Cathedral

If these 8 do indeed advance, I have the first round matchup of franklin vs. penn essentially being the state championship match. --- why can't the ihsaa seed this?

Seems like this always comes up, and it always seems to come back to the fact that the IHSAA claims they don't seed any other part of any other state tournament, so why do it for wrestling?

I think the cool thing about this tournament is, we actually have EACH of the top 7 teams, and we have another team who is basically unbeaten (Carroll) and unproven, and could easily prove themselves to be the 8th best team in the state, or even better.

You gotta quit living in the past and adjust. This is like posting the jobs numbers from when W. Bush was President and Republicans controlled Congress - Yeah, it's awesome but it doesn't change reality. The democrats took control of Congress in 2007 and look what happened. Move on; we live in dark times where honest competition is seen as immoral.

Remember that team semi-states don't match individual semi-states exactly:

Rochester Team Semi-State

Winner at South Bend Clay vs. Winner at Jimtown

Columbia City Team Semi-State

Winner at Muncie Central vs. Winner at Garrett

Peru Team Semi-State

Winner at Huntington North vs. Winner at Harrison (WL)

So Penn, Yorktown, and Harrison are the favored teams instead of Penn, Yorktown, and Carroll.

I used the old format, which did fall in line with the individual regionals. Makes for better conversations, plus it gives us twice as many teams to talk about, and another week of Wednesday matchups!
