Who's cancelling tomorrow?

In 33 years as Head Coach we have only had two Saturday Invittionals cancelled....today and two weeks ago.  Disappointing.

At some point schools need to realize we live in Indiana. Schools fly off the wheel nowadays over a little snow and cancel class and events way too easy.

Safety for all is paramount. Also, give everyone a great reason to avoid litigious civil court cases. Should there be a travel accident, with school transportation vehicles, and injuries are a part of it, God forbid, the personal injury legal specialist, will be on the scene, dispensing their business cards before, any ambulance has driven away with any of the injured. In fact they'll still be hanging around at the accident scene until after the towing services have remove the wreckage, or they'll be waiting at the hospital ER, for a prognosis for those receiving treatment. This is no longer the good ole days; no great grandparent stories about walking to school for seven or eight miles in all kinds of inclement weather. I can remember a certain high school Athletic Director (now long since retired), whose mantra about hosting wrestling tournaments during the worst of snow event. 'If the snow against the school building door, isn't so high, that we can't open and enter, we will be wresting'. AC Computer knows of whom I'm referring.

Statracker (doomsday prepper) your fantasy concerns are overhyped just like the wheather. Its my responsibility as a parent for my kids safety not you the a d or our socialist government. Please dont protect my child from snow and rain it helps him grow. I guess basketball players ride a special bus with paded walls and lawyer whistles on the front bumper. Lets face it unless the A.D has grown up in a wrestling family hes gonna shut it down and get ready for his big draw basetball game.IMO. You want to cry lawsuit how bout wrestlers united against ihsaa class action lawsuit  just like the young lady at Franklin county done for the girls a few years back. Just sayin sad. Snow is gone here rain saves the world once again.

Like coach peck said, only in the last couple weeks has he had cancel in 33 years. That says it all. I look around and all I see is rain water. Oh no, how terrible. Insert sarcasm. Grow some balls people, mainly AD's and tough it out like has always been done. If you don't like the weather, either move or wait a few hours, it will change. It's Indiana. Freaking ridiculous.

First off, IHSAA rules forbid Sunday competition. Second, I'd hate to second guess anyone who either cancels or chooses not to travel. I'd hate to have a tragedy on my conscience.

Yea because in 33 years there were no tragedies but all of a sudden we want to protect against that. Makes sense. Not.

Why cant wrestling meets be moved back 1 or 2 hours?  That would allow for safe travel.

Is it because of basketball games being played in the gym later that night?  If so, why not cancel the jv basketball game that wat you could still have varsity wrestling?

1. I'd say in some cases yes the basketball games got in the way of a late start time.  2. Many AD's tend to not think of such things as being a good option, even though rescheduling a single JV game is much easier than a multi-team wrestling meet.

So AD's value a JV basketball game more than a varsity wrestling meet?  Sad piece of reality for our sport.

I'd say some had legitimate reason for cancellations that occurred based on all the teams traveling in for the event.  In other cases some are more concerned with keeping the major money earning sports on schedule and didn't want to bump times to try an make it fit.  And in other situations some AD probably don't have the quick thinking to determine the schedule re-arrangement that you suggested on the spot and unless its brought to their attention ahead of time they most likely will just go with the quick solution of canceling the event.

Looking at it from an AD point of view.... You can laugh at us for canceling an event to stay on the safe side...... Or you can cry will us because a bus of strong wrestlers got hurt from traveling in the harsh weather. I would rather y'all laugh then cry. I love the sport and love to watch it but we have to keep everyone safe!

I'm just curious as to how many number of tragedies and/or injuries related to not cancelling wrestling events there has been in the last say 35 -40 years that have caused cancellations to occur all of a sudden this year. I must not be getting the news cause I just haven't heard of any but surely their has been since this year AD's are cancelling at the mention of the word snow. I'm not laughing at AD's as much as I am laughing at the fact that there is zero historical data that even remotely justifies the reason to cancel. I will be prescribing to all AD's a prescription for "man up".
