What about if you win state as a team you move up from 1a to 2a. 2a to 3a. Teams earned points based individuals' performance (mostly underclassmen) in the individual state tournament series. Six positions in each class were automatic (one from each semi-state, plus the next two highest point totals), and the final two slots were voted on by a coaches' selection committee from among the next few highest scoring teams. If the point system we used for the upcoming season had been used last year, 22 of the 24 teams selected would have been in the Top 10 of the final classed coaches' poll and the Top 5 in all three classes would have been at the event. Because of the selection criteria demanding one team from each semi-state, it's true that a team or two that seems to have a better "on paper" lineup coming into this year may have been left out. But we feel quite confident that the deserving state champion team is among the 8 selected in all 3 classes. New Pal and Roncalli, for example, will be very strong and would certainly have exciting duals against several teams--but these teams performed when it mattered in the individual tournament and won their position. I'm sure all answers will be speculation unless a coach from one of those schools chimes in, but it surprises me a school with a past like CP would decline. This might cut down on having this same topic come up every week or two. 1. A list of which teams are in each class. 2. How the teams were picked to be in the tournament. 3. Someone somewhere has a list of the points each team has coming back that was used to qualify teams for the tournament. It would be nice to be able to see the list for each class. 4.
