They haven't started yet, but I was just informed that Illinois' 132 (sorry for the incorrect info earlier, I have confirmed it was 4th place finisher Michael Sepke) was hit by a car last night outside the venue and is in Indianapolis today for surgery to repair an injury to his pelvis. Obviously, everyone's thoughts are with the wrestler and his family. Hope everything goes well for him today.

Pennsylvania pulled their team on Tuesday of this week, as did Florida and Texas, but Ohio and Kentucky each brought a secondary team.

The favorites are Illinois Navy, Indiana Gold, Colorado, Virginia and Kentucky Blue. Illinois Navy is a pretty strong early favorite, as the team they brought has no apparent holes and includes several state champs and a roster with each team member being at least a 6th place state finisher. Illinois Orange is a very strong secondary team as well.

Nationally ranked studs include:

Initial impressions:

Fewer elite caliber wrestlers, but a lot of young bucks who will be nationally ranked soon

Illinois Navy is a clear favorite on paper, but they will be challenged. Wonder if the nasty injury yesterday will affect their performance.

Kriech was pinned by Jaycee Jensen of Chesterton (if this result is accurate, this is a HUGE upset) and Bernard was decisioned by Winfield

Some nice Indiana results so far....

The aforementioned Jensen followed up his win over Kriech with a dominating win vs. NJ wrestler Zach Richard.

Zionsville's Jacob Aven with a very nice OT win over Ohio state placer Vern Rowe.

who r they wrestling  right now?

Gold is up big on Michigan

Blue is beating New Jersey. Tommy Cash had a tough match vs. NJ kid but won. Denton got beat. Indiana up 15-3

Looks like all 4 Indiana-based teams will advance to the winners pool.

Winfield with a big win over Bernard and then won his second match too

Brock Ervin of KY with an impressive win over Josh Alber of IL

Kentucky has some talented kids here.

Sean Fausz of KY is all over IL big school 4th place finisher Nick Nasenbeny, leading 9-3 late in the 3rd. Wins 9-3. Jayce Carr keeps the KY momentum with a huge fall over Mario Leveille of IL. KY thinks they can beat the very strong IL Orange team.

IN Gold really unloading on Michigan now. Only a forfeit at 132 prevents a completely clean slate for Gold.  Wondering if Blanton is dinged up. If so, that's likely to sink Gold's chances at repeating. IL Navy has only one loss as well.

Blanton tore his ACL I believe in his first match.

Not sure on the rules.  Are they able to move anyone from IN #2 up to that spot on the gold team or another alternate that came in to fill a out of state team void from IN?  Would be a shame if the Gold team has a chance to repeat but falls short due to not being able to replace an injury.

LeCount has to work against the underrated Fausz of KY. Wins 6-2.

Luke Welch loses to a very tough Brock Ervin of KY, Indiana's first non-forfeit loss all day. Very impressive team showing thus far. Gold forfeits at 132, still in control, even though the lead is cut to 12-9.

Denton loses by major 11-0 for Indiana Blue.

Crume manhandling a CO state champ, leads 6-0 in 2nd period. Leads 10-1 in 3rd against a very good wrestler. Falls just short of the tech, wins 15-1.

Levi Moss with a big pin of a CO 3rd place finisher. Blue looks to be in good shape to beat a team with a combined 14 state titles and not one wrestler who has finished worse than 4th in this year's state tourney. Very impressive, to say the least. Kelley has his hands full with CO's Downing, but Blue is on a roll.

Kelley was up 8-6 over 2 X champ and Wrestling USA-ranked Downing, but got reversed with under 5 seconds, to take it to OT, where he drops a 10-8 heartbreaker against a tough kid. It looked like he might've gassed a tiny bit at the end, but a stellar match.

Giffin quickly recaptures the momentum with a quick fall against a CO 3rd place finisher, puts Blue up 22-7. Just like that, Kriech gets pinned (not a great showing so far for the tough state runner-up), Seitzinger gets pinned, Adams loses 10-4 and we are all tied up. So much for momentum.Busse down 7-1 with short time left in the 2nd. Just like that, Blue is in big trouble.

Farrell up 3-1 in 3rd against highly regarded Jayce Carr. Farrell wins 5-3 in OT. Corsaro in a dogfight, tied with Cooper 2-2 in the 3rd. Vinny wins 4-2 in OT. Gold leads 18-9.

Jaycee Jansen wins again, by major. Watch out for this kid next season. Hard to believe it's the same kid who competed this past season. Looks like a complete monster.

Just as the momentum shifted nightmarishly against IN Blue, Ty Webster and Jared Broehm say 'screw that' and chalk up two consecutive quick, clutch pins, to clinch an impressive win for Blue against a pretty stacked Colorado team. Great job, fellas.

Bernard tied 1-1 in 3rd. Things got really chippy in the 3rd, but Wes pulls out a nice 4-3 win over a state champ. I thought Rios was going to punch him near the end of the match.

Isaiah Bradley wins 2-1 in OT, Gold's 3rd straight, all by OT. Gold leads 21-9--Kentucky making them work for it for sure. Stevenson with a methodical, impressive, 15-6 win over Canter. Gold up 25-9. Masengale with a big pin very nearly clinches it. A Hurford win actually does clinch it.

Virginia making me eat my words by taxing IL Navy. Almost every match has been firmly challenged, although IL Navy has opened up a 23-12 lead.

Cash gets Blue going quickly with a big fall over Aloi of VA. Blue leads 6-0. James up quickly on Merriam, leading 4-1 in 1st. Twice already Merriam is forced to use injury time. James finishes it off for the major, 9-1

Lee and Akins are still scoreless in the first, as Lee's physical style and heavy hands have Akins' nose bleeding repeatedly. First points to Akins with a takedown. Lee escapes, and then another Akins takedown. Lee trails 4-1. Akins is very quick. Lee very close to an escape, Akins is fairly blatantly stalling by just clinging to Lee's leg for a long period of time. Very surprised there was no stall warning. Akins bleeding again, finally puts on a mask. Lee will have to really pick it up. Action restarts, finally a stall warning as Akins just held on to Lee's leg for almost the entire period. Lee on top to start the 3rd. Wow, Lee snakes in legs and gets a turn!!! He ties it up at 4-4 with a nasty turn. Gold needs this one badly, much more than IL does, in my opinion. Lee fights off Akins' escape attempts, sends it to OT....great match. Several ties lead to nothing.....15 seconds, Lee trying to work to get the corner, GETS IT!!!! Huge OT takedown to win it and start Gold off in a great way....3-0 Gold leads IL Navy.

Crume with a fall over a very tough, very enormous Gustafson. Moss pulls a rabbit out of his hat and gets a reversal with seconds left in the match to win 3-2, in a match he trailed almost throughout. Another clutch performance by Blue--they are really rolling, leading 25-0. However, Kelley is clearly hurt and could barely even stand up against Arnold. Arnold techs him 16-1. 25-5, gutty effort just to compete by Kelley.

Gold is looking like they are in big trouble. Welch was game against Jimenez, but fell, putting Gold in a big hole, with the forfeit in mind. LeCount looks tough thus far against Spraggins and leads 1-0 in the 2nd. Spraggins comes back and wins 3-2 over LeCount. A repeat championship is starting to look unlikely for Gold.

Farrell was unreal against big school 4th place finisher Cook of Carl Sandburg. His win, coupled with an IL forfeit at 145, gives Gold new life. Bradley must beat Andreotti, no small task. He leads 2-1 in the first. Esc for the IL wrestler ties it at 2-2 in the 2nd. Bradley very aggressive, but trails into the 3rd. Bradley catches Andreotti and PINS HIM. Andreotti is penalized a point for throwing a fit....7 points for Gold in that huge match. Even so, Stevenson will likely have to win his match too because IL's bigs are really strong.

VA has climbed back against Blue. Adams is tied with Morson 2-2 in the 2nd. Adams with a big win.

Busse with a big pin to nearly clinch another win for Blue. If any of the final three Blue wrestlers can avoid being pinned, they will win, beating another excellent team in the process. Webster removes the suspense and wins, clinching the win for Blue. They will be undefeated when they face IN Gold in the morning.

Stevenson down 3-2 with less than a minute left against Rollins....needs a timely takedown or he will lose. Stevenson really looked like he had the takedown on the edge of the mat, but it's not given. Rollins wins, might be the dagger in Gold's coffin, unless there are big surprised ahead. Masengale is favored, but IL will be favored pretty strongly in the final four matches. Masengale is surprised a little by the aggressive attack of Mammen. IN Gold has already lost three matches by a 3-2 score, showing how close they were to overcoming the loss of Blanton. Mammen up 5-3 in the 2nd.
