Dang it!  I would love to take the kids from our club to HYWAY State.  I thought HYWAY State went very well last year!

Alas, it won't happen.  March 24th is the first date for freestyle tournaments and our club has already committed to attend a peer tournament.  Last year, HYWAY State was intentionally schedule on a Sunday to avoid such conflicts.  It is too bad they didn't think of that this year.  It may hurt attendance.  Oh well.

Do  you have to declare a weight? If so, what happens if you are over?  Can you move up?

Yes you will have up until Friday March 23 to change your weight on trackwrestling.  Day of tournament you will have to step on singlet and shoes before match with 2 pound allowance.  Scales will be open 90 min. prior to start to check weight.  If you miss you scratch.

Just checked Track...numbers looking scarce with 24 hrs to go, seemed pretty big last year...whats up with that...is it the matside weigh-in? the location? the prizes/medals? seems to be a huge drop-off from last year... :( Disappointing...

Probably the cost if your not a HYWA member its $55.

Your probably right....

Not enough wrestlers to make the trip this year, pretty sad...they better step up the game...a championship room...a podium...better prizes...from what I hear the only reason anyone is going to this now is to get to Nuway...its more of a "guess we have to do this..." rather than, "lets go do it!" So, not going this year...numbers much better last year, think we had 12-15 in the bracket last year, not great, but better than 3 or 4...some still have zero...1...2...maybe next year...

Does anyone remember the old saying..."If you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all?"  Maybe it's just me, but people sure do bitch and moan a lot any more.

So a wrestling coach/community is giving kids another opportunity to compete and that's what they get..."better step up their game?"  How about this, don't go.  This tournament isn't going to replace the ISWA State Series, nor are they trying to.  It's just another opportunity to wrestle.

I think they are trying to replace ISWA/USAW. If you hear their leader Dave Dean talk he has a very clear vendetta against USAW.

Maybe he does, I really don't care.  I'm not financially breaking the ISWA/USA Wrestling because I go to 2-3 HYWAY/NUWAY tournaments each year.  Doesn't change the fact that to me, it's just another opportunity to wrestle.  I will continue to support both, provided that they offer what I believe is a good product for a fair price.

I'll say one thing, NUWAY Nationals has contracted some sweet venues the last couple of years.  And what kid doesn't like the HUGE eagles?

Opportunity to wrestle is the number one reason to show up to these tournaments. but on the other hand this is a state tournament and it doesn't seem like they are promoting it like they want big numbers
