devildog47959
Iowa has went 77 consecutive dual meets without a loss. The closest they came to losing was a 15-15 tie with Oklahoma State on 1/16/11. (It was Iowa's first tie since an 18-18 result at Penn State on Dec. 4, 1992) They wrapped up the regular season with a 19-12 victory over #6 Minnesota on Sunday. The win gave Iowa there 4th straight regular season Big 10 Title. They are 31-0-1 over the last 4 years in Big 10 dual competition. To have that record wrestling against the best college wrestling conference in the country is OUTSTANDING! They might not win the big 10 tournament or the NCAA's but they are still my pick as the #1 Team in the nation. Currently ranked 3rd behind #1 Cornell and #2 Penn State who the Hawkeyes beat 22-13 last month. There streak of 77 will be carried over to next season, do they go undefeated AGAIN next yr in dual competition or does somebody finally take them down? http://www.hawkeyesports.com/sports/m-wrestl/recaps/022011aaa.html http://intermatwrestle.com/articles/8122
norm
The streak stayed intact because they dropped out of the National Duals this year. What a ch1cken sh1t move. http://www.usawrestlingnation.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=3959&start=
MattM
The streak stayed intact because they dropped out of the National Duals this year. What a ch1cken sh1t move. http://www.usawrestlingnation.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=3959&start=0 I think it was part of Brands plan to help keep his in experienced teams confidence building to peak in the post season more than just maintaining the dual win streak. By not risking getting put out in the early rounds of the National Duals he can keep them thinking they have a a chance at finishing higher than the pre-season polls were telling them. Plus, skipping the National Duals it also gave them the extra time needed to formula the best game plan to contend with #3 Oklahoma St and #2 Penn State which they also had later in January. Iowa faces several of the top 10 teams, so I'm not sure they are flat out dodging teams by not attending one event. They are just working the old Gable mental strategy of designing a schedule to get the most out of what you have. Clearly it must be working with with recent team wins that have put them back in the top 5 team rankings (a spot most thought they would be out of this season)
