MattM
Not sure HWTs are the best to coach welter-weights but at least they are mobile style big boys. I would have figured they would have gave them light-heavy's. At least they were smart enough not to attempt another HWT competition so soon. TripleB
Another interesting thing is that Brock runs specific camps just for him. It's all big guys. What can he and Cole Conrad show WW's? Marty Morgan might be able to pull from his Minnesota background for conditioning and such. Does Lesnar even have a BJJ coach or anything?
gogoplata89
Coaching wise it is going to be pretty unfair. You will have Brocks coaches plus maybe Pat Berry and Cole Conrad. And on JDS' side he has all of the team black house guys ( A. Silva, Machida, the Nogs, M. Munoz) plus their coaches.
MattM
With the WEC merger I was really looking forward to a TUF with little guys soon. Hopefully next time around.

It is funny you mention that gogo....When I heard the news that brock was going to be a coach I thought ....oh geeze we are going to see a repeat of the the Kos/GSP season where Kos was repeatedly lambasted for not bringing in elite coaches, and deservedly so. That being said, I think Marty Morgan is GREAT....BUT, unless UFC staff gets involved, I fear as though that will be the extent of it. I watched MMA Live on ESPN this evening and they were discussing the new season of TUF and they stated that Brock was going to be an very dynamic coach because of his antics after fights.....and I couldn't disagree more. I feel like he will develop a bond with several of the fighters but it will be low key. Of course I'm sure I am totally wrong and he will be just a crazy dynamic personality on the show........but I don't believe that will be the case....of course editing is king in these shows. Tennessee
This will bring in some rating, but I wish they would've done Edgar and Maynard. They would be good coaches, and we could see lightweights go at it. Junior will have good coaches. Brock won't except for Marty. I like how GSP ran his... training with the guys, letting his coach coach.

The Guru
I REALLY wish they would drop the "coaches fight" aspect of the show. They should just pay top notch trainers and coaches to come in and coach. Why not hire guys like Matt Hume, Greg Jackson, Erik Paulson, Bustamante etc etcetc? I think you'd get a more professional atmosphere and athletes taking it seriously.

Penguin145
There is an guy from Indiana on TUF. Shamar Bailey, he trains up at integrated, any one know if he was a wrestler?
MattM
There is an guy from Indiana on TUF. Shamar Bailey, he trains up at integrated, any one know if he was a wrestler? He just wrestled his senior year of high school at Center Grove (family move a lot). Did well but not sure at what level he was put out of the tournament series. Went on to wrestle DIII while becoming a pastor at a Bible College. He has been training with Lytle the last several years along with being a member of the fire department with him. He was suppose to have an epic battle with Kinser but the fight ended quickly due to Bailey getting cut. On a side note

MattM
Bailey was first pick for Junior do Santos's team and also was choosen to fight first against Lesners last pick.
Smooth34
Bailey was first pick for Junior do Santos's team and also was choosen to fight first against Lesners last pick. It's brutal watching these European fighters compete against wrestlers. Last night's fight on TUF, Dan Hardy vs. Anthony Johnson this past weekend, and the list goes on and on. They need serious wrestling help over there.
Penguin145
Shamar's wrestling looked great, but he needs some work on his gorund and pound. He didnt do that much damage until the last thirty seconds. And it looks like some good coaches will be coming in. Looking at the top of the thread about how it would be difficult for HWTS to coach WW's, at the end of the TUF episode it showed Matt Hughes coming in and coaching the guys up in practice, which is awesome to see since Hughes is my favorite haha. base
This season's been pretty entertaining so far. Not seen a lot of dominant fighters, but hopefully that will pick up in the 2nd round. I was surprised Dos Santos got rid of his coach Polley. Yes, he was overstepping his bounds when he began talking to the fighters about boxing techniques but I never thought he was being disrespectful to Dos Santos as the head coach. Lesnar seems clearly out of his element coaching the smaller fighters. He is mostly coaching them on the mental aspect of the season (and just how much does this guy like chicken salad??) Right now I have Shamar as my guess at the championship, but round 2 may tell a different story.
MattM
I'm guessing the ratings have been hurt a little bit by the lack of drama, as far as the average MMA fan goes. However, I do agree there have been some decently even fights so far on the show. This next round should start to seperate the real cream of the show from the rest of the group. Bailey does have a decent shot of winning if he can stay health and avoid "getting caught" while in attack mode.

I agree that Brock might not be the greatest coach in the world, but I'm glad that he seems to genuinely be trying to make these guys better. I think most fans seeing the more "respectful" Brock, will ultimately help in the future as well.

Penguin145
I agree the show is helping people see more sides to Brock than just the persona he built up in his first few UFC fights. Lenn said last night that the real brock is different than the brock on camera. Lenn said that brock really doesnt care about them when the camera is not on. MattM
Lenn said last night that the real brock is different than the brock on camera. Lenn said that brock really doesnt care about them when the camera is not on. Yeah, but Lenn also had a little bit of a mental breakdown the last few episodes and was angry he didn't get the wild card. I tend to think some of that was over emphasized because of his frustration. The editors obviously used it though to create at least some drama in an otherwise bland season. Brock admitted early on he wasn't going to be the best hands on coach so thats why he assembles such a large team. Brock also told Lenn exactly why he had reservation about him fighting as soon as he was asked when he could have came up with several other reason for why he wasn't choosen. When it really comes down to it we see that same type of meltdown every year when soemone feels they are getting the short end of the stick. While Brock may not be the greatest guy in the world the show has at least allowed people to see more of his personality than we had seen previously. Penguin145
But I can see Brock being that kind of guy, someone who wants to look good on camera, but isnt the person he is. and Brock is sick now, so Dos Santos will be fighting Shane Carwin. This will be a great stand up battle.
