WRESTLING: Rosbottom family inducted into IHSWCA Hall of Fame

The Rosbottom family from Jeffersonville was inducted into the Indiana High School Wrestling Coaches Association Hall of Fame during the organization?s 39th annual awards banquet on Sunday at Jonathan Byrd?s Cafeteria in Greenwood.

The family members who entered the hall were 1974 Jeff High School graduate Louis Rosbottom, his wife Sharon, his sons Robert and Daniel and his daughter Patty.

They are the second family from Jeff to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. The first was the Doherty family in 1995. Only one other school in the state, Bloomington South, has at least two families in the hall.

Louis and Sharon Rosbottom have been longtime supporters of the Jeff High wrestling program. They both founded the Team Jeff Wrestling Club in 1992. Louis has been a middle school coach for both Jeffersonville middle schools, while Sharon has been the president of the Jeffersonville High School Wrestling Booster Club.

Along with their service to Jeff High wrestling, they are both currently members of the Indiana State Wrestling Association Board of Directors. Louis Rosbottom also is a wrestling official for the IHSAA and the United States Wrestling Association.

Robert and Daniel Rosbottom each had standout careers for the Jeff wrestling program. Robert, a 1999 graduate, posted a 123-3 career record and won two state championships. He also was named a USA All-American in 1998. Daniel was a two-time state qualifier and compiled a 164-33 career record. He was twice named Jeff High?s most valuable wrestler.

Patty Rosbottom, a 2000 Jeff graduate, has been a United States Wrestling Officials Association pairing official since 1996. She has been pairing high school tournaments for seven years and is the Indiana State Wrestling Association Section 5 Pairings Director.

Also on Sunday, Jeff High head coach Danny Struck was named the IHSWCA Regional 15 Coach of the Year and received an honor for collecting his 200th dual-meet win of his coaching career this season.

The Evening News sports department also was honored as it won the 2010 IHSWCA Media Award for its past coverage of high school wrestling in Southern Indiana.
