So, to conclude.. over the last 4 years if we average everything out:

Merrillville- 7 Champs per year, 10.75 in the Finals per year

Evansville- 3 Champs per year, 6.25 in the Finals per year

New Castle- 2.5 Champs per year, 6.5 in the Finals per year

Fort Wayne- 1.5 Champs per year, 4.25 in the Finals per year

However, the trends shows that Evansville is slipping to the worst semi-state and Fort Wayne moving up to the 3rd best semi-state with Merrillville taking home half of the state champions every year and New Castle trending up to a consistent 2nd best every year..

though i wouldnt be looking down upon evansville, i think that they will bring a lot of strong wrestlers to State this year. I think that trying to show a trend in high school wrestling is hard seeing how wrestlers are only there 4 years (i hope). However the southern part of the state has had fresh wrestlers now in the varsity ranks so the competition will heat up

Sliga to win as a fresh at 189, that would be amazing if he is even close to Atwood. I can't wait to see him at Semi-State. I like your 71 pick Go Jackson!!

I agree with part of this post, Sliga is amazing but with Atwood and Stevenson around his chances are pretty slim. Definately a 2-timer.

This appears to be the most reasoned approach of the ones I have seen.  My only change would be at 112 -- I would go with Beck.  Nothing against Campbell, I just don't think he can beat Beck in the tournament.

Also, I think 160 lbs will have the best match of the tournament.  If Willis opens up his offense, the match will be physical.  On that front, I like Willis' odds.

May as well get in on the fun!

103 - Cody Phillips  He's won it before, he's dominating again this year.  Someone will have to knock him off the pedestal.

112 - Kyle Ayersman My favorite wt. class this year -- it's like a Battle Royale!  Just have a feeling about Ayersman.

119 - Tony Lovejoy Not many returning 119s here.  Many coming up from 112.  Lovejoy drops down from 125 and is too strong.

125 - Brandon Wright He's been here.  He's lightning fast.  This would be my shock of the tourney if he loses.

130 - Jason Tsirtsis Some good competition, but I think he's on another level than the rest of the field.

135 - Andrew Hiestand All the extra wrestling work Yorktown's putting in (disney duals, vs. Missouri) pays off for Hiestand.

140 - Frankie Porras No offense to anyone but this doesn't seem to be a deep field.  Porras moving up 2 classes from last year, returns to the stand.

145 - Alex Surma He and Roach will battle all the way to Indy, and this is a strong field.  Surma squeaks out another medal for the Region.

152 - Sammy Bennet Fairy tale ending to his career, wins gold for the last year of the Scots wrestling team.

160 - Sean McMurray WWE-like hype for this wt class.  Wins his 3rd gold, half the fans cheer, half boo him.  He attempts to repeat Sandefer's breakdancing routine but only manages to spin around once, slowly.  The crowd turns ugly.

171 - Michael Duckworth  Wins in dominating fashion.

189 - Braden Atwood Finally sheds the spectre of Duckworth and climbs to the top step.

215 - Christian Lentz The Cavemen finally get one atop the medal stand.  Their team will see gold the following week.

285 - Ross Janney He's just too much for the undersized J Travis.

A little data to keep in mind over the last 4 years..

2009: Merrillville- 7 Champs, 9 in the Finals

2008: Merrillville- 6 Champs, 10 in the Finals

2007: Merrillville- 7 Champs, 12 in the Finals

2006: Merrillville- 8 Champs, 12 in the Finals

These numbers have been pretty consistent, so when one makes their state champions predictions this season, its a safe bet to think that these numbers will hold up again...

now dat says it all !!!

I have heard some people saying Cleveland wasn't wrestling any more. That seemed strange, so I wondered if it were true. If so, that changes the state picture a lot. If he isn't, there's no need to say why, his reasons would be his own.

I don't see anyone beating Roach at 145.  Also a reply to someone that said if Willis opens up his offense

he will win 160.  I have seen Willis wrestle 2 matches in the last 2 years  Last year vs Mark Myers at the Traicoff

Myers won 4-1.  Willis did show a good defense since Myers had pinned everyone til then.  This year I saw the

McMurray match which McMurray won 1-0.  Where is the offense?
