The postseason and what it means to some

It starts Sat. the postseason is almost here, its a magically time of the year full of surprises, sleepers,  easy predictions, unknowns, and upsets. The only records that matter are the ones that at the end of each Sat for the next five weeks.  The guy, you wrestle might be a senior or freshman  with a great record or terrible record, it doesn't matter anymore, everyone 0-0 each weekend they advice. If you want to win state like every wrestler, don't look for it to be given to you in a FF, you have to earn it. The journey starts with sectionals and ends with Individual State and the State Dual Meet, watch out for the speed bumps in your quest to a title: bad draws, poor calls, and your own misQ's, don't let them beat you, leave no doubt. Believe you deserve it, you earned it, and you can beat anyone. Awake up all you sleepers, your time is now, don't get caught on your back or it might be all over, fight to wrestle another day. Don't listen to any boo's from the crowd just let it fuel the fire that burns your insides, make them watch you wrestle each weekend while their kid sits in the crowd now saying that should of been me getting my hand raised. He is only waiting for next year, your time is NOW. In the end, we all are after the same thing to wrestle under the lights of the fieldhouse, to be the reason other wrestlers' seasons are over while you continue to march on, beating the best to be the best, not just to make it to state but fulling your dreams of winning, to watch your mother cry full of pride as you stand on top of the mountain as the cameras flash with a blue ribbon around your neck and to see your name written on the line with CHAMPION underneath it, only 14 can say at the end of the night "I won." Respect those who you defeat by being a class act but remember you a TRUE CHAMPION because our sport has no class system in our GREAT STATE of INDIANA. After the Sat. night in the fieldhouse, the only thing left is 8 teams and 1 more Sat at Center Grove where the HWT's collide. It no longer matters what you did as an individual, who you beat or who you lost to, its all about the team and answering the question,"Who is the best team in Indiana?" Then when it is over, you might get one chance at a postseason run or four, make the most of each opportunity. Every year the postseason brings new faces so leave the maybe next year attitude at home, focus on now. Most wrestlers go home early, sitting around thinking about all the what if's, should of's, would of's, and could of's that just means its time to grap your gear and get ready for next year. As you get older, this chapter in your life will come to a close, your days on the mat as a high school wrestler will one day be over. You will still think about all the what if's from your postseason career and let the emotions that run wild every Feb. just like you where in high school again. Remember though, now your the adult, its your turn to watch from the stands, coach from the corner, and be supportive for ALL the wrestlers from every high school. This sport lives off your passion to compete, so encourage your opponents only to get better to raise the level competition. Clap for those who win and have respect for those that lose, always be a model of class and reject any ideas of a class system. But don't worry, you will always remember the thrills of the postseason from your Glory Days...

Thanks for reading and GOOD LUCK to everyone this postseason
