    Delta Sectional Recap

    Delta Sectional Recap

    By AJ Bradley

A few questions were asked in the Delta Sectional Preview:

Would Yorktown get all 14 wrestlers out?  The answer is YES.

How would 112 play out?  It played out the way it was seeded.

Would Mosier vs. Whitaker be competitive? Yes, it was very competitive.

Would Chalfant vs. Janney live up to the hype?  Unfortunately, the answer here is no.

    Some notable performances:

Travis Bryant dominated the field today at 103.  He defeated a very good Brock Bevans in the finals 15-4.  Bryant looked like a wrestler who wanted to make a statement, and I believe he has made the statement.

All Devin Jackson does is win!  This talented freshman won a very tough 112 field today, and did it with relative ease.  He dominated Stefan Harry from Wapahani is the semifinals, and then defeated Stevie Gonzales for the fourth time this season in the finals.

Clayton Harry from Wapahani likes to make matches very exciting.  He always seems to find a way to win, even when it looks like he is out of match.  He never looked out of the match today, but he did seem to be in a little trouble.  Harry turned that little trouble into a pin for his first Sectional title.

All I can say about the Martin v. Harper is that they went at it for 6 solid minutes.  It was a true battle on the mat and a gift for the spectators in the stands.

Mosier and Whitaker had a very intense match.  Good shots, and even better defenses.  A great match with a great finish by Mosier.  These two could hook up a few more times before it is all said and done.  Baker (Bellmont) gets to join their party next week, which will make for a superb get together.

The reaction after Anthony Fodrea beat Muncie Southside's Jimmie King was a priceless moment!  I could not help but smile when Fodrea ran to his coaches with a smile that could be seen back in Winchester and gave both of them high fives!  Great match today Mr. Fodrea.

Chalfant is a very quiet young man off the mat, but he makes some serious noise when he steps on the mat.  Ross Janney is a talented wrestler from Yorktown, who will most likely be standing on the podium at Conseco in a few weeks, and Chalfant handled him today.

Overall it was a good day of wrestling and a great day of wrestling for all the Yorktown Tigers and their fans as they claimed the team title in runaway fashion.
