    Adams Central Team Regional Preview

    by Brandon Razo

Adams Central High School in little Monroe, Indiana will play host to it's first Team Regional battle under the new Team State format.  In first round action the two match ups include Whitko vs. New Haven, and  #9 Bellmont vs. #7 Yorktown.

    Whitko vs. New Haven

Whitko's Sectional title in the Carroll Sectional ended a 13 year championship hold by either Columbia City, which had won the last eight years, or Carroll, which had won the five years before that.  Whitko racked up 229 points with four individual champions: 112-Jordan Gilbert, 119-Dylan Letourneau, 125-Dan Rothgeb, and 189-Tanner Larocque. New Haven once again claimed it's own Sectional by outdistancing Homestead 264-213. New Haven claimed five individual champions sweeping the middle weights: 135-Nate Bloomfield, 140-Zack Zurbrugg, 145-Nathan Swygart, 152-Nick Graham, and 160-Matt Klemm.

    #9 Bellmont vs. #7 Yorktown

This is the match that everyone has been waiting for all season, the battle of the Bellmont Braves and the Yorktown Tigers.  Usually we have a preview of what these teams bring to the table against eachother in their early season battle, but this year Bellmont had to drop out of the Peru Super Duals as most of their lineup had just got done winning the 3A Football State Title.  Yorktown brings in one of their best lineups since 2003 with 3 returning state streeters: 119: Derek Bevans (5th at 112), 145: Jordan Dulaney (SQ at 140), and 152: Kyle Mosier (4th at 152).  Yorktown was able to advance all 14 wrestlers to this Saturday's Individual Regional at Jay County claiming eight Sectional champions.  The Tigers come into Wednesday night slightly favored on paper, looking to knock off Bellmont for the first time ever. These two teams first met on Saturday, November 28, 1997 and since then Bellmont has won all 15 meetings with Yorktown. The Northeast Indiana powerhouse Bellmont brings like always a very talented lineup with 3 state streeters: 125: Will Sheets (4th at 125), 152: Tyler Baker (6th at 145) and 215: Billy Baker (SQ at 189 in 2007). The Bellmont Braves rolled in high fashion claiming their 19th straight Sectional title and 35th overall, advancing 12 wrestlers through to Regionals and claimed five champions in the process. It will come down to bonus points in this match as every point will count for these teams looking to advance to Team State.
