Great system! We will take a small dip the next year or 2 but will not be denied with false opinions soon. To say we disagree is an understatement. Having only 8 at 4A with teams allowed to choose to level up is bullcrap. But what do I know.

I’ll also throw this out there. Name another team that is in the top 20 that has 0 move ins or kids that out of the district. There probably isn’t one. But… whatever

Ok ok illl call the county in the morning and get their home adddress and cross reference them with their middle schools I’ll see if they will release birth certificates too.

even tho he was in your district it’s nice to add a SQ from another school to your line up. I know the teams voted in didn’t get that luxury but what do I know

Take it up with IHSAA and their lack of interest. No reason the classed team state duals wouldn't be lucrative enough for them. I'll say it for the 10 millionth time, the team state duals should be treated like the IHSAA Football & Basketball tournaments. Make a stipulation that 8 different weight classes must be filled to be considered a dual team. The tournament doesn't count towards the stupid schedule points bs. Let schools & teams decide how much or little they want to wrestle instead of the IHSAA assigning a points system to limit schedules. Kids today are finding ways to wrestle 7 days a week, 365/366 days a year whether it is formal or informal practice or competition.

You weren’t trying to add any state champs 🤔

Wrong. I stand by my decisions. Yes I had an opportunity for one of the best ever in Indiana to be part of our program but it wasn’t the right thing to do for him and his family for many reasons which is no one’s business besides theirs. I stand by my program and the decisions we make.  Including someone that has always lived in our district and I have helped coach since he started wrestling. Along with the fact I recommended he not go to our school when he started high school.

When does strength of schedule come into play into this. How doea a school get in with a opponents record of  6 wins and 50 losses. I know we all have set schedules. We had more 2A,3A and 4A teams on our schedule then 1A schools.

I apologize if I am wrong on my statement about some teams. I’m taking nothing from Portage. They have always been tough. My last loss in high school was to a Portage kid. I’m also taking nothing from Zionsville. They always have a great team and Welch is a great coach.

I personally truly felt like my team earned it this year and I did everything in my power to prove we belonged including changing our schedule last minute to face top teams, submitting all stats for our wresters for the year so far, and who was in and out of lineup during matches. Our starting lineup all have around 20 matches or more with 81% win record.

I’m not delusional. We wouldn’t be winning the thing. We would be there for the experience and get kids at least 3 quality matches and maybe some of my kids beat some kids they aren’t supposed to beat.

As a coach my job is to stick up for my team when they deserve it and work to put them in front of the best competition possible along with the best opportunities. And this is a great one for that.

Like everything else I’ll get over this and move on. Just give me 24 hours. :)

Man… very disappointed to see Homestead not make it. With that said.. I’m more disappointed to see the sour grapes. Not sure who votes but I’m sure it’s not the kids and parents of the teams that got in. I can say with 100 percent confidence that every team that made it has a kid starting that didn’t start kindergarten in that school district.

Again, disappointing for the Homestead wrestling for sure. Best of luck to those dudes and the teams that will be there!

Well said. Just love how no one really wants to call out the ones creating this problem. Seems people are scared or think they are doing an excellent job, when it seems they're doing just an OK job at best to me. I'm not just talking about how they handle wrestling either.

I will not delete my comments because I feel that is wrong because I made them. Let’s just say I should have slept on it before I got the keyboard out. Like I said I apologize if I miss characterized programs unfairly.

I understand the reasoning, we still need to show out post season and other teams on that list have done that.

I appreciate all your support @Mattyb.

Another part I hate, just like the old single class team state determination of regional teams. Individual results & dual strategy aren't always tied together.

It's tough and I was in the vote in, and I am not going to give the ins and outs of the discussion, but we did find out zoom meetings have time limits twice. It is an imperfect system, but it is the system we have. It is good that we are able to get people from across the state in and discuss and try to make the best decisions. I can say the votes were not unanimous.

I already told Andy I did vote for Homestead. It doesn't seem that way with the back and forth in the post, but I like their results and think they are building something really good.

Wish I’d gotten Mason Goelz in that soon!  Started when he was 12. He has fallen in love with the sport.

Welp, learn something everyday then. Way he wrestles at Contenders and the advice from my son, I thought he been around wrestling since he elementary days . Middle School is good enough . Kid has talent that will take him to the next level if he extends his career. Hope he does !

It is a hard job and the imperfect system means not everyone will be happy.  Not sure there is a perfect system.  But thanks for all you guys do for Indiana wrestling.
