    2010 Carroll Sectional Preview

The Carroll Sectional looks to be as thrilling as ever with four teams having a legit shot at the team title.  Carroll, Bishop Dwenger, Garrett and defending champion Whitko all are looking for the championship as this promises to be a knock down, drag out fight from the beginning.  Whitko is loaded in the lower weights, Garrett has their horses in the middle weights and Carroll and Dwenger have numerous seeded wrestlers throughout the brackets.  The team championship will go to the team that avoids the most slip-ups along the way.

    103lbs

Chas Busz of Whitko is the class of this weight with only one loss on the season.  Look for him to not be challenged all day.

    1. Chas Busz- Whitko
    2. Kris McKinley- Northrop
    3. August Novy- Garrett
    4. Bryce Forresster- Columbia City

    112lbs

This weight is going to be very interesting with three very good wrestlers battling it out for the top spot.  Returning champion Jordan Gilbert of Whitko is going to be tested by Logan Ables of Carroll and Derek Kissinger of Columbia City.

    1. Jordan Gilbert- Whitko
    2. Derek Kissinger- Columbia City
    3. Logan Ables- Carroll
    4. Tim Burns- Bishop Dwenger

    119lbs

This weight is a toss-up from the top to the bottom.  The top seed is Austin LeTourneau of Whitko, but he will be pushed by Austin McCray of Garrett.  Both are younger brothers of two excellent wrestlers and look to start making a name for themselves this week.

    1. Austin LeTourneau- Whitko
    2. Austin McCray- Garrett
    3. Justin Garman- Carroll
    4. Mike Miller- North Side

    125lbs

The top two wrestlers in this weight class come in with stellar records, the rest of the weight class, not so much.  Top seed Logan Lee of Garrett defeated second seed Dylan LeTourneau earlier this year in overtime.  Look for this match-up to be just as close as both are excellent grapplers.

    1. Dylan LeTourneau- Whitko
    2. Logan Lee- Garrett
    3. Riley LeFever- Carroll
    4. Michael Zehr- Bishop Dwenger

    130lbs

The class of this weight class is state medalist Daniel Rothgeb of Whitko.  Rothgeb is having an outstanding year again with only one blemish on his record.

    1. Daniel Rothgeb- Whitko
    2. Brayden Moreau- Garrett
    3. Alec Bussen- Leo
    4. Michael Nix- Bishop Dwenger

    135lbs

The class of this field is returning 3rd place finisher Brock Norton of Carroll. Norton has yet to suffer a loss this year and will look to wrap up his second straight sectional title.

    1. Brock Norton- Carroll
    2. Corey Delaney- Bishop Dwenger
    3. Corey Botts- Leo
    4. Cody Bays- Whitko

    140lbs

This is one of the tougher weight classes in the sectional with returning state qualifier Justin Beck of Leo being the headliner.  He will be pushed by North Side’s Wade Theil and Garrett’s Shea Novy.

    1. Justin Beck- Leo
    2. Wade Thiel- North Side
    3. Shea Novy- Garrett
    4. Jeff Clark- Carroll

    145lbs

This is probably the premier weight class of the sectional with three state ranked wrestlers.  Carroll’s Reece LeFever has the top seed, but he will be challenged by Jordan Venderley of Bishop Dwenger and Garrett’s Bryce Schendel.

    1. Reece LeFever- Carroll
    2. Bryce Schendel- Garrett
    3. Jordan Venderley- Bishop Dwenger
    4. Roy Meeks- Leo

    152lbs

This weight class has many good wrestlers with semi-state qualifiers Jon Timmerman of Carroll and Garrett Weber of Leo leading the field.  Look for Timmerman to seal his first sectional title.

    1. Jon Timmerman- Carroll
    2. Garrett Weber- Leo
    3. Jordan Nicodemus- Churubusco
    4. Carter Delaney- Bishop Dwenger

    160lbs

There are two headliners in this weight and after that it falls off significantly.  Leading the way is undefeated Zac McCray of Garrett, but he is closely followed by Carroll’s Conner LeFever.  LeFever and McCray last met in the regional finals with McCray getting a big win.

    1. Zac McCray- Garrett
    2. Conner LeFever- Carroll
    3. Ben Evans- Bishop Dwenger
    4. Jon Porter- Northrop

    171lbs

This will also be an interesting weight class with some very good wrestlers.  Leading the way is returning state qualifier Jordan Hamilton of Churubusco.  Whitko’s sophomore sensation Austin Striggle will look to improve on his 4th place finish in this weight one year ago.

    1. Jordan Hamilton- Churubusco
    2. Austin Striggle- Whitko
    3. Corey- Harris- Northrop
    4. Brendan Berghoff- Bishop Dwenger

    189lbs

There are many good wrestlers in this weight class with all the top seeds coming in with over 20 wins each.  Bishop Dwenger’s Peter Waikel looks to be the head of the class here, but will have to navigate numerous land mines to secure a sectional title.

    1. Peter Waikel- Bishop Dwenger
    2. Braxton Siddons- Churubusco
    3. Daniel Sauders- Concorida
    4. Austin Gibson- Garrett

    215lbs

This is a great weight class with all but one wrestler having a record of .500 or more.  Look for this to be a weight with many different possibilities.  Isaac Evans of Bishop Dwenger is the top seed, but Carroll’s Gage Andis is wrestling well right now.

    1. Gage Andis- Carroll
    2. Moe Talamantes- Northrop
    3. Isaac Evans- Bishop Dwenger
    4. Clint Davis- Northrop

    285lbs

Concordia’s undefeated big man Korey Eck leads this field.  He is the defending champion of this weight, but will be pushed by Whitko’s Drake Brainard who he met last year in the finals.

    1. Korey Eck- Concordia
    2. Drake Brainard- Whitko
    3. Geoff Getts- Garrett

    Tony Bobay- Bishop Dwenger
