maligned

Recommended Posts

Below are the final 1A State Duals qualifying scores.  Teams 1-10 are all in automatic bid positions right now.  Teams 11-15 are in range for being considered for the two vote-in positions.

Remember, however, that these class assignments are not official.  We will not know official class assignments until the new IHSAA enrollment information is released in early March.

Teams near the 1A/2A cut line that are currently classified as 2A and that would have high scores if they are moved to 1A are Southmont (207), Delphi (160), and Southridge (159).

A star (*) below means a team's score was adjusted according to the qualifying procedures injury provision.

Below are the final 2A State Duals qualifying scores.  Teams 1-9 plus W. Lafayette are all in either semi-state or wildcard automatic bid positions right now.  Jimtown plus teams 12-18 are in range for being considered for the two vote-in positions.

Remember, however, that these class assignments are not official.  We will not know official class assignments until the new IHSAA enrollment information is released in early March.

Teams near the 1A/2A or 2A/3A cut lines that are currently not classified as 2A, but that would have high scores if they are moved to 2A, are New Castle (167), Oak Hill (167), Jay County (141), and Roncalli (141).  The latter two scores would be enough to reach the vote-in consideration threshold if nothing else changes from the below standings.

Below are the final 3A State Duals qualifying scores.  Teams 1-9 plus Carroll are all in either semi-state or wildcard automatic bid positions right now.  Teams 10-17 other than Carroll are in range for being considered for the two vote-in positions.

Remember that class assignments are not official until the new IHSAA enrollment information is released in early March; however, it is almost certain that none of the mentioned top 17 teams will move down in class.  Seemingly the only team that could affect these standings is New Palestine, who could move up from its tentative 2A position with a 3A score of 171 (enough for vote-in consideration).

A star (*) below means a team's score was adjusted according to the qualifying procedures injury provision.

Does the committee get to look at dual results before they vote?

I put together packets with all important team and individual results. The form that coaches get to fill out lets you give specific credentials of jv and incoming 8th grade talent that will impact your 2015-16 team. This info is added to team reports and pored over by the committee during the voting process.

So, Garrett being in "17th"...will we get a packet?

Thanks,

Nick Kraus

If you stay within 15 points of the 2nd highest score among teams that do not get automatic bids, then you will get a form to fill out to give to us.  Right now, because you are within 15 points of Leo, you are in the needed position.  However, if, for example, New Castle would be moved down to 2A when the official enrollment data is released in the next couple weeks, the new 2nd highest non-auto bid team would be Jimtown--leaving you more than 15 points away and therefore out of contention.    We will announce all of the official bids and the vote-in candidates as soon as we can finalize classes.

Final qualifier and vote-in candidate lists are now published on the thread, "Official final list of qualifiers..."

Changes in 1A after enrollment numbers were released:

Southmont and Delphi move into 1A and qualify for the event, pushing Tecumseh and Eastern Hancock into the vote-in category and eliminating Milan from all consideration.

Avon went 3-1 last year and finished 5th, beating Carroll, Bloomington South and Franklin. Lost to Penn. with the Freshman coming into the program, Avon will be able to compete with everyone. The out going Senior class will be missed, can't lie about that. 6 four year letter winners are gone. Avon will be young and good for the up coming season.

New Pal doesn't make the cut?  I thought they were dropping to 2A, where I think they would be a serious contender to win it all

As Y2 said, we had them provisionally in 2A, but when the new IHSAA data came out--which we had announced before the tournament began would be the standard once it was released--they were right at the cut line in 3A.  Had they been in 2A, they would have been an easy automatic bid and not part of the voting process.

Once it comes to the voting, the scores don't matter so much since the qualifying scores for these teams were virtually identical and the coaches can look into so many more details of the entire season and prospective rosters for next season.

10 pts between Churubusco and a team like Tecumseh and Eastern Hancock seems pretty significant and not virtually identical.  But I get it, ignoring scores gives coaches the freedom to vote in who they want.

The point isn't that the scores don't matter at all.  The point is that you have to put the qualifying score in perspective with everything else.  A 10-point advantage here suggests a team performed in the state series in a way that they would be a 4-point favorite in a dual.  That's very, very slim and requires us to look at more information.

Tecumseh brings back 9 starters--none who made it past regional.

Churubusco brings back 8 starters--1 who made it past regional.

Churubusco beat Tecumseh by 30 in the season.

Churubusco brings back 16 JV kids (plus 8 freshmen).  Tecumseh has only 3 JV kids (plus 7 freshmen).

Churubusco had a significantly better genius rating.

I wasn't a voter, but for me, with how difficult it is to fill a 1A lineup with varsity-quality kids, the data seems clear between these two.
