Forfeits at Sectional
« on: January 25, 2011, 04:27:39 PM »
Do forfeits received at sectional count as pin points towards the team score?  For example, if a #1 seed receives forfeits in the first two rounds, making his first actual match in the semi-finals, will he still receive points for those first two rounds?

No team points for first round.

And to further clarify, that is for all sectionals with MORE THAN eight teams.

You would get the pin points for the win in the quarter final match aka the round of 8.  The other win... well that is nothing and will just go on your record.

The system overall is ridiculous. With all of the forfeits and byes, we are still putting kids through a death match first round, especially kids who have wrestled some odd forty matches already this year.  Let's face it, we are not that deep with wrestlers in this state to let this sort of thing stand without complaint, are we?

I know the establishmentarian line of argument that justifies not having wrestlebacks at semistate can be used here: "Have a better season if you want a good seed" etc. but even so, you can have a great season and seed and still draw the snake-eyes by having a loaded weight-class with floating studs that make the privilege of a good seed seem not as much an earned luxury as it should suggest.

If this can't be fixed, than lets get down to the nitty-gritty early and make  super-sectionals with more teams and eliminate all this dead bracket space. My apologies to all of those who have already been down this road and have stuck their thumb in the pie enough.

Placement points for a tournament awarding six places.

1st = 16pts.

2nd = 12pts.

3rd = 9pts.

4th = 7pts.

5th = 5pts.

6th = 3pts.
