BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The 2011-21 Indiana University wrestling season officially begins Saturday, Nov. 5, when the Hoosiers head to Ypsilanti, Mich., for the Eastern Michigan Open. The 20th annual event is expected to draw over 500 wrestlers from across the country, including more than 50 nationally-ranked grapplers.

Two dozen Hoosiers are expected to make the trip with 12 wrestling attached and 12 unattached. The 12 individuals representing IU will be: Geno Capezio, Cheney Dale, Joe Duca, Anthony Fretwell, Jowan Gill, T.J. Hohenadel, Preston Keiffer, Ryan LeBlanc, Sawyer Morris, Matt Ortega, #4 Matt Powless and Taylor Walsh.

Walsh Takes First, Three More Place at MSU Open

Nov. 13, 2011

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Redshirt freshman Taylor Walsh took to the mat five times at the Michigan State Open, and had his hand raised five times as he earned the 149-pound title. Walsh was joined on the stand by three other Hoosier placers: Ryen Nieman (133 lbs.), Matt Ortega (141 lbs.) and Ryan LeBlanc (174 lbs.)....

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana began the 2011-12 dual match schedule by downing three opponents Friday night by a combined score of 121-18 at the IU Quad. The Hoosiers went undefeated at six of the 10 weight classes, including a three-fall performance by redshirt freshman Taylor Walsh at 149 pounds....

Indiana Wins 3-of-3 at Hoosier Duals

Nov. 26, 2011

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana University wrestling team (6-0) swept a multi-dual competition for the second consecutive weekend on Saturday, picking up three wins at the 2011 Hoosier Duals. The Cream and Crimson took down Northern Illinois (3-2), Campbell (4-4) and SIU-Edwardsville (0-3) by a combined score of 80-34 (27-15, 31-7, 22-12).

Indiana went unbeaten in four weight classes, getting 3-0 showings from Taylor Walsh, (149 lbs), Ryan LeBlanc (174 lbs) and Matt Powless (197 lbs); while Mitchell Richey and Matt Ortega combined for a 3-0 day at 141 pounds.

LeBlanc (14-3) increased his team-high season wins total to 14 victories, including a pair of major decisions on Saturday. Walsh (13-2) was IU's top team-points contributor, however, posting a fall, major decision and decision to provide 13 team points for the Cream and Crimson. The Richey/Ortega tandem was responsible for 13 team points as well. Powless (10-0) rounded out the unbeatens with two decisions and a major...

Will Chalfant be able to wrestler soon as he clearly is the best HVY on the team.  Thought I'd read he was available to wrestle 2nd semester, but wasn't sure.

He wrestled unattached at the Southern Scuffle. I'm assuming he was with IU though since that's what was labeled as his affiliate school on the brackets.

#8 Illinois Downs Hoosiers, 29-10

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Hoosier Wrestling (6-6) won both of the marquee battles against #8 Illinois (12-2) as Taylor Walsh and Matt Powless each defeated their nationally-ranked foes. The Fighting Illini ultimately won the war by taking the dual 29-10. Hoosier heavyweight Adam Chalfant was also victorious on Sunday for the Cream and Crimson
