I was surprised at how poor the Greyhounds did at the Classic....   They just seemed to have an off weekend.

A lot of the guys ran into some pretty tough wrestlers. The team was expecting more placers but sometimes that's the way things happen. Johns injury forfeited his last matches after losing in the semifinals. Good luck to them at the Ashland duals coming up and get some rest during the holidays.

INDIANAPOLIS- The Greyhound wrestling team hosted the Greyhound Open Sunday, with eight UIndy athletes placing on the day. The three UIndy seniors, Matt Irwin, Keith Smith and Nick Walpole, were also recognized at the meet.

Walpole, Irwin earn trips to NCAA Division II National Championships

SIOUX FALLS, S.D.- The Greyhounds will be sending a pair of wrestlers to the Division II National Championships in Kearney, Neb. Mar. 11-12. Nick Walpole won the 149 bracket to earn his trip, and Matt Irwin took second in the 141 bracket to make the return trip to Nationals.

Nick Walpole became the first UIndy wrestler to bring home a national championship in program history with a 4-2 win in at 149-pounds.  The Greyhound's Matt Irwin was also an All-American at the meet, taking sixth in the 141 bracket.

the team took 12th over all at the NCAA's as well.

Also:
The University of Indianapolis wrestling team was named the 2010-11 Academic National Champion by the NCAA Division II Wrestling Coaches Association.
