The pace of trying to follow online and on TV with 6 matches at once is crazy.  Especially with so many great matches!

Back around to consolations.  Red and Lee up next on mats 5 & 6

Thanks for heads up.  Agree on the crazy viewing.  Running big screen semis.  And compute and phone consols.

Hoosier Wrestlers went 3-3 tonight, giving us 4 All-Americans.  When is the last time IN has had 4 AA's?  5?  More??

It's been a while. I said something around mid season about getting 5 AAs and it was quickly dismissed based on lack of history

I don't get why Nick Lee chooses down.  It is clearly his weakest position.  He had a minute plus riding time and chose down.

Not sure where to find it, but I thought Yianni's post-match comment was telling.  In a nutshell, he said he saw where/how he could take Heil down, but saved it for later in the match when he might need it.  Maybe I'm wrong, but to me that's next level wrestling for a true freshman, especially one in a tight match with a 2x defending National Champion.

Bet on the dudes who have multiple world titles/medals. Lee, Yianni, Hall, Zahid

plus add guys like Fix and Gable next year with success on the world stage.

Nick Lee with a major decision over Sa'Deria Perry of Eastern Michigan, 12-4, advancing to the consolation semifinals to face Missouri's Jaydin Eierman in the morning. Lee is guaranteed no worse than 6th.

149

Not D1, but Austin Bethel just became AA with a 3rd place finish in D3 for Wabash which is their best finish ever.

Awesome job Austin.

Is the "best finish ever" as a team or individual?

Chris Healy finished 2nd at nationals for Wabash.

Lee lost to Eierman by fall at the 2016 UWW Junior Freestyle Nationals.  That loss dropped Lee to the 7th/8th Place match.  That was a loaded field.  Eierman went to on finish 4th, losing to none other than Yianni Diakomihalis.  That field finished:

1st Mitchell McKee
2nd Seth Gross
3rd Yianni D
4th Jaydin Eierman
5th Taylor Lamont
6th Scotty Parker
7th Nick Lee
8th Joshua Terao

All were wrestling in Nationals this week.

I got that info from a local article. I would assume that means highest placement for a wrestler from Mt Vernon high school

That was a stacked weight for sure.

That weight also included:
Jose Rodriguez- wrestled at Ohio St. Not sure where he is now.
Lincoln Olson - 3x Michigan State Champ now at Cleveland State ( spent 2 years at OK State before transferring)
Johnny Jiminez - Wisconsin's 125 lb'er
Kaden Gfeller - OK St Redshirt who beat Nick Lee at this year's Southern Scuffle
Ben Thornton - Purdue, NCAA Qualifier
Eli Stickley - Wisconsin, NCAA Qualifier

One other note: Eierman beat Yianni D to send him to the consolation bracket 12-11.  Yianni D won the 3rd place match 19-8.

You are correct, but he didn't wrestle for MV, he was from Carrol.

Day 3 - Saturday morning - Consolation Semifinals and 3rd -8th Place Matches

Happy St. Patty's Day everyone!  We have 4 Hoosiers remaining.  1st up will be Nick Lee in the conso semifinal.  Followed by placement matches for Lee, Chad Red and Jason Tsirtsis.  Stevan Micic sits out this morning session and will wrestle for the 133 lb title this evening!

Ohio State and Penn State are battling for the title.  Penn St. had a huge night last night to take the lead and has 5 wrestlers in tonight's finals.  OSU will have to make up some ground and build a lead in today's consolations as they only have two in tonight's finals.  Big start for OSU with Tomasello with a fall over Northwestern's Sebastian Rivera.

141
Nick Lee drops a 12-4 decision to Jaydin Eierman of Missouri and will wrestle for 5th/6th.  The match reminded me a bit of Nick's semifinal loss to Stevan Micic his freshman year.  Nick was great, but not quite ready for the elite level at that point.  As he develops physically, we'll see if he can enter into that upper level.

Yeah, my fault in the clarification. It was an article in our area about a local athlete. It went on to say it was the highest finish by that(MV) school. Sorry for the confusion.

Matches moving quickly this morning.  OSU off to a fast start with wins at the first 3 weights.  Micah Jordan drops a SV 4-2 dec to Berger of Nebraska for their first loss.  Bo Jordan vs. Michigan's Myles Amine up next in a key match for the Buckeyes.

Just an observation but it seems like ESPN could do better with the sideline guy. His interviews just seem awkward. Taylor or even Baldwin seem like a better fit.

It has been like that for as long as I can remember.  I think it is more the fact he has to chase the wrestlers down as they are heading to the back while they are still breathing heavily from their match.  It would be much better if they could make arrangements for winners if asked, to take 5 and come back for an interview.  Last night, Retherford didn't even take his mouthpiece out.  It's no different at the Big Ten Tourney with Shane Sparks.
