3A Team State Qualification Scores (through state)

Recommended Posts

Scores are now updated through state. The top 9 here plus Northridge as the Fort Wayne automatic bid will receive team state invitations soon.

After bids have been confirmed, teams eligible for the two vote-in wildcards will be sent information sheets to fill out regarding their incoming talent and other information about the potential quality of their team for next season. If all bids would be accepted, Penn, Warren Central, and Carmel would be looked at for the two vote-in bids because they are the only teams within 15 points of the first and/or second available vote-in candidate. If one bid is declined, it would bring Mishawaka into the mix and two declined bids would allow Zionsville, Crown Point, and Merrillville into the discussion for at least one of the vote-in spots.

May I be the first person to just say: I really hope Cathedral can find space in their schedule to come. These scores make them the biggest year-ahead Team State favorite we've had in 3A since we went to this format. Right now, they'd be favored by 10-12 points over anybody in the state. It's going to be tricky, though. They've got their own super dual, the city championship, the Traicoff, and the Al Smith that I'm sure they don't want to give up. Here's hoping they find a way to make it work with such a special team expected back.

I think Crown point will be pretty good next year. They would be a vote in right now correct?

Crown Point will need some help.  Maligned will know,  but I think you have to be within 15 points of the 10th team to get vote in status. I saw they had some good freshman coming in.

Unfortunately, some of their wrestlers and fans have made it known they don’t consider participating in it worth anything, as well as, other similarly unfavorable statements rather than just saying their tight schedule would not allow for it.  I’m guessing they would have to alter that mentality before accepting the invitation. I was very disappointed this years decline  turned in a chance for some people representing their school to disparage this event we are fortunate enough to have.   It would be great to see them there, and they do have a great chance to win.  However, if they choose to decline again at least respect the opportunity it allows team to face the top competition reguarldess of the IHSAA feeling about it being a recognized title.

So really... if we assume that cathedral is out... the only drama would be which two teams make it in between (warren, Carmel, and mishawaka).

If Cathdral accepts, the vote in will be between (penn, warren, and Carmel).

it would take multiple teams declining to get anyone else in.

Is this correct?

With the new rule of dropping a tournament for two dual meets you may see more teams declining due to having commitments to events already. They can only have six tournaments(or super duals) so it could be a very tight fit for programs to keep an open spot for this event.

Cathedral for instance has
Traicoff
Al Smith
City Championship
Host their own super dual
Mason, Ohio tournament
North Central Invite

They have been scheduled to host another super dual in early January, but it has been cancelled the past two years due to weather.
