1A Team State Qualification Scores (through regional)

Recommended Posts

Only a little bit of jostling for position left in 1A, as you can see from the points each team has available this week. The top 4 teams here are locks for the event already. Wabash, Central Noble, and Eastside are also virtual locks.

Remember that the top team from each semi-state, plus the next best 6 scores are automatically qualified.

No offense to Boone Grove, but man are there going to be much better teams left out

They can't score any more and they're eliminated from auto qualification. The floor for vote-ins will be at least 135 so they could be in trouble there too. Not sure what you mean by others left out. ..inferring they've gotten in?

I think he is pointing out they would be the auto invite from East Chicago...

Why is it that 1A scores are very important now but 3A are not?  Is it because overall they have less wrestlers competing at this level?

Three reasons:

1. In 1A, there are obviously far less kids still alive and therefore less possibility to score compared to 3A.

2. The difference between returning a semi-state level kid and a state-level kid is very minimal when we're talking about the impact on one 1A team's duals scoring ability versus another. So their scoring chart has a small gap between the top level and the semi-state level. On the other hand, there's a huge difference in dual-meet impact at 3A between returning a first-round semi-state kid compared to returning a state champ in 3A when we're talking about two of that class's top teams squaring off.

3. Having high-level seniors in 3A is quite predictive of how well your program will reload. In 1A, it's not nearly as much the case. Seniors are actually done scoring in 1A now, while seniors in 3A can move all the way from 6 points scored to 14 points scored on Saturday because the gap between graduating a semi-state level kid compared to graduating a state-level kid is very, very different in suggesting your school's quality-level next year.
