I will make the first pick.  Mater Dei has the hottest gym in Indiana. Has to be 110 in there.

Also MD will win the best HS restrooms in the State in the hottest gym . 2 years I went there I was like D@mn....  this is nice!

Walk back out the doors Your in 1960’s hot Gym . Lol.

Love the tradition on the walls .  Absolutely Perfect will miss seeing  that.

Being a coach and on the floor and in the locker rooms all day, I didn't know those restrooms existed for a number of years.  The first time I walked in I honestly thought I had been transported to a different universe.

Looking over the brackets and the two new teams don’t appear to have any wrestlers, wrestling!

very weak Mate Dei holiday classic this year. Disappointed...

guess this makes the Avon decision to go seek competition at a higher more consistent level a good one to all of you who said doubting comments !!!

I'm cool with Avon seeking better competition, everyone should seek better competition but I still think Avon gets 2nd in this tournament. Reasoning... lots of good matches and a lot of Mater Dei kids step up big on this stage. I've noticed throughout the years that beating a Mater Dei kid in their own gym is a whole other animal.

It's sad that Avon has left the Holiday but anyone who can blame them after seeing the lineup for that tournament they left for is crazy. Complete meatgrinder.

I am not 100% sure on this and would have to defer to MattyB and TeamGarcia but it does seem to me that over the past several years Avon has not ever taken its full varsity team down to EMD for this tournament and may have used this weekend as a time to rest up some hammers and get some next level good kids some varsity experience.  With this said I think its no wonder they never won the tournament (not to say they would win this year if they were there and full strength but you get the point)

Just looking at the numbers that's all. If you don't want to suit your full lineup cool, but that's on you. Also, I know multiple occasions when Mater Dei did not suit their full lineup and still pounded. 2016 is a big one, the year Avon took 2nd, EMD was missing K. Egli @ 106 and backup Kaleb Hinderliter placed 5th. at 132 that year EMD Nick Lee was missing and he would have probably scored a team point or 2 if i'm guessing.

If you have a full lineup, but refuse to suit it, then it is no ones fault but your own.

Avon first started attending the classic because their former coach wrestled in it when he was in high school. That coach left and Avon left the classic....makes sense.

There is no question the classic takes a hit with Avon leaving. But Mater Dei always steps up and wrestled good at their own classic.

Wuestion- does Avon rest anyone at the new tournament?

We never rested anyone at this or any other events in the years I was there always injuries and sickness this time of year. And yes MD kids in that gym is not an easy feat for kids who normally wrestle in front of their parents and that's it at home duals. Other schools just don't get alumni from the past 25 yrs to show up, it can get insane in there. Avon been going to MD since Jared Williams days.
