Seems like with more and more national opportunities are being created for our youth wrestlers, the usaw events are becoming less of a priority (especially the folkstyle event). I know a ton of our stud wrestlers will be wrestling in Iowa this weekend... but in DesMoines and not Cedar Falls. May continue to be a dry spell for Indiana for a while.

Since USAW is requiring Bronze certification to coach cadets/juniors this is also a racket.  Just add a fee, but making me take the "bronze course" for $80 is a joke.  Saying you can coach a  kid that is 14 with Copper, but then not a kid who is 17 without Bronze is a joke.  Same style, same rules...  Just say you want the money.

We'll definitely hit FloNat's next year instead.  They might charge $75 for a coach registration, but at least they're up front that its just a fee.

The national scene has been way over saturated the past 10 years. Everyone likes to call their events "nationals" when only a few states enter.

I agree that there are many 'national' tournaments across the country these days, but there is still only 1 World Championships of the World tournament.  April 8th and 9th at CHS.  Dreams will be made in the Carmel wrestling room as guys earn the right to declare themselves on the All-Earth team and only 1 team can earn the most coveted trophy on the planet.

Bronze certification is good forever. You can also utilize the certification in ALL USAW events.

$75 to coach is way more than ridiculous at an event.

I agree it is ridiculous.  My beef with the Bronze, is that the "course" is ridiculous.  If you've been coaching for 20+ years it is just hoop jumping.  I get the idea of having a certification course in place. I just think if you have either copper or bronze it's pretty much 6 of one half dozen of the other.  So be up front and just make a fee to skip up, or ditch the copper altogether and just make everyone do bronze right off the bat....

In the end, nobody stopped me from coaching with the copper band on.  I just had to buy a ticket to the session (for $26).  Not a big deal, but I doubt USA wrestling sees much of that money compared to the venue.  If they'd just given an 'upcharge' to go to bronze, they'd have gotten all of that.

Basically I just shouldn't get on here if I'm a little peeved about something that's no big deal.  Better to just chill out

My favorite post of the offseason so far

Yeah it cost to much to coach at these things

Not much of a dry spell. Jesse Mendez just became Indiana's 12th triple crown winner today competing in schoolboy division at 105 pounds. Side note, Jesse wrestled another Indiana kid(Zeke Seltzer in the freestyle finals). Must be the 2 qualifiers that got him over the hump.

Jesse is a great kid and deserving of all the success he has achieved !!!!

His success skyrocketed for sure after being Weisjahn coached at the elementary duals wearing purple for the '16 State Champion Dogs......guess you could say that is when he really turned the corner for sure.  Another success story for Fabio's portfolio/resume...LOL
