My only prediction is that no one that knows who Hughes is will choose down against him.

Wow...Alex Griffin rides Smith all of the 2nd period and leads him late. There was a really strange clock situation though. He ends up losing 4-3 with 59 seconds of riding time. Watching live, it looked like they didn't stop the riding time clock in the 3rd when Griffin was escaping until 2 or 3 seconds after he escaped. In other words, it should have been at least 1:01 in riding time and gone to OT. But the coaches said nothing and he falls.

Summary of the morning session:

Seeds Micic, Hughes, and IU's Jackson all advance easily. All unseeded guys fall, with Steveson picking up the prelims win first and Griffin flirting with a huge upset

Hughes loses by tech in a takedown clinic vs Massa. Defers in the 2nd and never gets the chance to be on top, losing just at the end of the 2nd.

Nate Jackson of IU on Mat 8 vs #8 Dechow in a battle of all-americans from last year

Micic can definitely beat Clark.  He's been a little sloppy on his feet but he's so hard to score on, especially after someone has a single leg picked up.

Hudkins looked good last night in the consolation round, dominated on top.

Hughes cracks me up.  I've not seen anyone wrestle like he does.  Watch out once he gets more experience on his feet at this level.  He may be in the conversation among best top wrestlers in the country right now.

Jackson looked a little slow after the knee injury at the Big 10s.

Dang... Guess I didn't realize how good Massa was in comparison to Hughes. He'll get better with time though, that's for sure!
