Fact Check: Wrestling________________________________________________________

“Committee of Power”  leaked transcripts were edited to leave out key statements from committee members.

Poster intentionally omitted statements and facts to persuade the argument against Harrison team.  Snopes has been able to obtain the full transcript and thus enabling to discern the truth.

The only  good wrestlers are  Crider, McCartney and Krintz.

Mostly False

What’s’ False

From the transcripts: Committee Member U5  “ What about Betourne and Ruiz and Wade.    You forgot about they’re all ticket rounders.  If they didn’t have to run into the Calumet Regional, they would have made state in any other SS.  If in Fort Wayne they’d be in the finals.  Just like Committee Member OTR8  said: Calumet got a “4”, they should be an 8.  Adrian’s numbers don’t make sense”.

Logansport is the gateway to state:  or it’s a very weak regional and why would we take a team from here.

Rating___________________________________

Mixture

What’s’ False

What the transcript really said:   Committee member z1: They’re from the Logansport Regional.  HAHA “LOL”.   Ok the Regional is weak in the sense of state placers, but they have had successful dual teams. Adrian rated it a 3, not a 9 like Calumet.   But, back in the IHSAA duals they competed and Harrison had a 39-3 record.  What are we looking at, a team state tournament team or dual team.   If we’re going to make this an indictment of a  weak regional, then this an indictment against the whole Indiana system.   Sorry Fort Wayne guys and no disrespect CMY2, if Logansport regional is that bad then the Fort Wayne is the equivalent in Semi-States.   Didn’t Maligned say FW was last in placers for 15 years in a row.   ………Committee member z3: That was funny when the Hobart guys thought they should be in the vote. They have some good wrestlers, but more holes than Swiss cheese.  No way they hang with the big guys like Harrison would.    Brickfor is a good guy, but sure is a homer.  LOL , I also can’t believe the guy online “wrestling scholar” thinks Logansport is good.

Origin

Logansport region has consistently underperformed and has been maligned (no pun intended) by the Region, is the butt of many jokes as the red haired step child of the EC/Merrillville semi-state.

Harrison has only one returning  state qualifier.  Perry Meridian has 4 state placers returning.

Rating___________________________________

Totally False

What’s’ False

What the Transcript really said:    Committee member Y2: “Harrison only has one qualifier and Perry Meridian has four.  Come on Harrison sucks guys”.  Good point Joe.

Committee member x4 “Wait: If I look at the review sheets Harrison has two qualifiers.  McCartney went the year before and they have Crider.   HMMMM!!    Wait looking at the review sheets.  Perry Meridian only has only two returning state placers, “Lowery and Warren”.  Hey Joe is you pulling a fast one.  It even says that on Indianamat.   How can we make a real decision when we’re not dealing with facts.

Perry Meridian always has state placers on JV.   They have a monster Freshman Class

Rating___________________________________

Somewhat False

What’s’ False

What the Transcript really said:

Committee member Y2: “Perry always places a kid at state that was on JV the prior year.    They have a monster freshman class.    They’ve been good for the last 20 years.    Even though they’re losing 9 starters it doesn’t matter if it’s a rebuilding year”     It doesn’t matter if  Perry  is good or not next year, we  just can’t have a team state without Perry.”

Committee member V5:   Wait,  Perry has only  had that happen twice, when a JV kid placed at state. Total exaggeration CMY2.  Also Harrison has 13 starters back and 12 of them made it Regional and 10 to semi-state.   Yea, the Regional wasn’t as tough as the Calumet regional, but it’s not the bad.  And like committee member OTR5 says, Harrison went through EC, the toughest.   And Harrison had a good varsity B also with guys that can compete for spots.  What about those transfers.    So you’re saying we should vote a bunch of freshman and JV kids over kids who have been successful in the IHSAA system.  Wouldn’t that be an indictment against our whole system.  How are we going to be able sell that to the public.    Wouldn’t that look a little fishy.

You’re the Committee of Power and the best you can come up with is Harrison

Rating___________________________________

Somewhat False

What’s’ False

What the Transcript really said:

Committee member Y2: “You’re the committee of Power and the best you can come up with is Harrison.

Committee member M8Technically, this is not a committee of power but the IHSWCA  team state selection committee.   I researched the origin of “committee of power, and it didn’t come from that guy “Wrestling Scholar”, but came from an administrator on IndianaMat.

Committee member T7:   Why are you so hard on Harrison “CMY2”.   The representative from your semi-state scored significantly less than Harrison but the gets in due to that little technical rule you came up with.    Shouldn’t you give Harrison a break.

Committee member F##9:  Let me check the map, Harrison is in Tippecanoe County.  That’s not even close to Hendricks County.  They can’t be very good then.

Perry loses Warren,Kain,Woolbright,Amos, Miller. Nier.

Perry has Cottey, A. Warren, two phenomenal incoming freshman. Blaze lowery who just bet a ticket rounder. Cue who placed 2nd in fresh/Soph state. And no telling what other JV kid hiding in the background. Harrison wouldn't beat Perrys JV team.

Sorry American pride.  As you can see from the transcript the committee might put more weight in experienced upper classman than incoming phenomenal freshman.

Which bring up a new point; should the committee give points for middle school state placements from 8th graders?

Currently you don't get points for them,  but in the current system you do get points for successful seniors.    Its based on the assumption that you have a good senior, then you have a good JV kid or freshman moving in.  So in an indirect way,  Perry Meridian is scoring a lot of points from all their graduating seniors.

There aren't points given during the qualifying process because there's no one event that everyone participates in. But paperwork is sent out to all the vote-in candidates after the first round of bids are confirmed. In that, we ask for specific details of results of JV and incoming freshmen kids at state and national events. The committee knows full well that middle school state champions in the 90 to 130 pound range, for example, qualify for high school state as freshmen more than half the time. Those kids' addition are weighed substantially in the voting discussion.

That's right. History shows that seniors' performance adds a layer of predictive accuracy to teams' performance in the following season. Senior state qualifiers in 3A, for example, score the same as an underclassman who loses in the first round of semi-state because having either of those individuals on a team indicate the same level of marginal added duals quality for next year's team.

Adrian,    Also does the committee "C.O.P." consider transfers from other schools that are moving in that have been successful in the state series when making their voting selection?   Im just hearing one of the schools being evaluated   might have some big hitters transferring in.

Anything that can be easily confirmed as true can be used to build a case. Rumors are not considered of course.
