Olympic qualifying wrestling today (Day 3, Sunday, men's freestyle)

Recommended Posts

Campbell's lack of offense catches up to her.  Down 2-0 entering the 2nd period, attempts one sort-of knee slapper half shot the entire period and falls 4-1.

This women's weight of 58kg never really came that close to getting qualified at worlds, pan am qualifier, or either of the two world qualifiers.  It was possibly our weakest weight from among all 18 weights of the 3 styles.

I just mention this to say: Kayla Miracle at her young age was remarkably close to being our girl at this weight from the OTTs.  She is right there with the top girls and she is by far the youngest of them.  There is a clear quality vacuum there that it would be amazing to see Kayla fill in the next few years and bring this weight up to normal US standards.

"As Bulgaria takes their license from the 1st World OG Qualifier, their first-place finish at the 2nd World OG Qualifier will be transferred to the United States who finished in third place (via Frank MOLINARO).

The qualified countries at 65kg (for Zrenjanin, Ulaanbaatar and Istanbul) are then: Georgia (GEO), Armenia (ARM), Bahrain (BRN), Turkey (TUR), Bulgaria (BUL), Canada (CAN) and The United States of America (USA).

Frank the Tank is in!

Nice.  Although some people doubt Molinaro's ability against tough international competition, he did showed in the final last change qualifier that he was the most deserving of making the game of those who had not yet qualified.  I'm glad to see that the UWW saw it that way too.
