CHRIS FEDER APPOINTED AS HEAD COACH FOR MACCABI USA’S OPEN MEN’S WRESTLING TEAM FOR THE 20th WORLD MACCABIAH GAMES

Philadelphia, PA – David and Stewart Pruzansky, Open Wrestling Co-Chairmen of the USA Organizing Committee for the 20th World Maccabiah Games, have appointed Chris Feder as Head Coach for the Open Men’s Wrestling team for Team USA. Feder, a 2006 inductee to the California Wrestling Hall of Fame, will lead a team of nine wrestlers to compete in Israel, July 4-17, 2017. The World Maccabiah Games are the world’s third largest sporting event, with over 9,000 total participants representing over 75 nations.

No stranger to the World Maccabiah Games, Chris Feder represented the United States in Wrestling at the 8th & 13th World Maccabiah Games in 1969 and 1989, respectively, winning a silver medal in both freestyle and Greco-Roman at both tournaments. Feder also holds the record for oldest wrestler to medal at the World Maccabiah Games. Along with experience in freestyle and Greco-Roman, Feder also has competed in folkstyle wrestling as well.

“It is an honor and privilege for me to be named by Maccabi USA as the Open Men’s Wrestling Head Coach for the 20th World Maccabiah Games in 2017,” said Feder. “Having the Maccabiah come full circle for me is truly remarkable, first being a competitor in 1969 and 1989, and now being the Head Coach. My previous appointments to Team USA were life-changing, from winning four silver medals, to the lifelong friendships I have made.”

Feder has had a lifelong involvement in the Wrestling world, beginning with a stellar collegiate career at CW Post (currently known as Long Island Post University). While at Post, Feder was the Metropolitan Conference Champion from 1967-1969, finishing his career with the conference record for most falls and all-time scoring. Feder was also a two-time NCAA All-American, finishing in third place in 1968, and second place in 1969. Since 1975, he has been coaching various regional and high school wrestling teams in Northern California, and from 1990-2005, held various leadership positions within USA Wrestling and California Wrestling. He is currently the Head Coach for Marin Catholic High School in Kentfield, CA, and the Brawlers Wrestling Club in San Rafael, CA.

Feder is recruiting wrestlers to compete at team trials, spring 2017, to represent Team USA in Open Men’s Wrestling at the 20th World Maccabiah Games, ages 18+.  Applications for the Games and tryout information are available online now at www.maccabiusa.com.

My son had the privilege of representing the USA in the Maccabiah games in 2013. Luckily for him the competition at heavyweight was a little less than the other weights. It was a competitive team. An ALL American from Brown, Greco US team member , Other D1 or former D1 wrestlers, 2 x state champ from Ohio . They were coached by former All American from Cornell. It was a more than wonderful 28 day experience in Israel for him.

If you are Jewish or have  Jewish wrestler on your team please show this to him. Tryouts for the last few cycles were in the Cleveland area and I imagine they will be there again so it is rather convenient for Indiana residents. If any one has any questions please feel free to contact me.
