Novice Bat
I know that this isn't a national thread, but I saw that Spencer Lee and Gavin Teasdale have committed to Iowa.
MattM
Spencer L. (Junior) and Gavin T. (only a Sophomore) are both big national names and already have several international wins under their belts. If they stay with this commitment to Iowa it looks like Iowa will have some lightweight depth for the foreseeable future. With both being from Pennsylvania many speculated they were almost a lock for Penn State, so this is a big pick up for the Hawkeyes as they look to get back on top of the team race. Disco
And we all know 16 and 17 year olds never change their minds once it is declared. TheNextDynasty
cradleU
How does this commitment STUFF work? Are these verbal's? Can they change their minds without any violations from NCAA? Just wondering?
Y2CJ41
How does this commitment STUFF work? Are these verbal's? Can they change their minds without any violations from NCAA? Just wondering? They are all verbals until they sign on the dotted line. Lee can't sign until November and Teasdale not until...November of 2017. Once they officially sign then if they change their mind they could face a one year penalty if they aren't released from the respective school. Once a kid is signed I believe he is off limits for other coaches to talk to.

Y2CJ41
They let David Taylor do it with no penalty I'm pretty sure He had to get a release from Iowa State. Most of the time schools will release the kid, but they have the ability to not release them.
wrestlenewbie
The decision to release or not typically resides with the coach (though sometimes the AD) and often comes down to whether or not they will face the team the athlete wants to transfer to. So, you will sometimes see that the athlete gets a partial release like "you can go to any team not in our conference" or "any team not in our division". It can be very arbitrary as different coaches have different philosophies on the issue. It can even come down to the coach giving one kid a release because a relative has fallen ill and the athlete wants to transfer to someplace closer to home, but not giving another kid a release because there is a personality conflict.
