Great to hear that 2 of Indiana's best are training and working out with each other in preparation for the World Championship.  Angel and Reece are not only training together at the Ohio RTC but are partners at the USA camp in Belarus that started today.  Bring home the gold to Indiana.

First round win was 6-0 over a Romanian that just won a big international tournament and was listed by themat.com as a dark horse at worlds.  Second round win was an 8-0 tech over a Hungarian--again a significant win because the tournament is in Hungary and host-nation wrestlers always perform over their heads.

Kumar is ranked #4 in the world.  If Angel wins, he'll have 2 shots at winning matches that would earn him a world medal.

Angel wins 8-2 and will wrestle for the bronze medal in about 2 hours

Win or lose, GREAT performance by Angel.  Worlds in some ways can be tougher than the Olympics for getting in medal contention because all countries are involved and there are no fluke, one-sided tiny brackets.  You have to beat real people to medal.  Winning gold at the olympics is still the ultimate because you're guaranteed to have all the top guys since no one is taking a year off.  But being a guaranteed 5th or 3rd at worlds is a FANTASTIC performance by Angel.  Seasoned vets Bergman and Metcalf didn't come close to this today in the other 2 weights.

Angel loses the bronze medal match, 2-1, to a Turk.  Again, great tournament for Angel.  He won't be satisfied.  But as outside onlookers, we can say this was a very, very solid performance for him.  No one on any message board anywhere had him pegged for anything but participation--let alone one point from medalling.

Bracket posted now for Reece for tomorrow.  He's got a Ukrainian and then probably a Turk if he wins.  Beyond that, he'd have the winner of two of the favorites (the Iranian and the Azerbaijani) in the quarters and the Russian in the semi's.  No shortcuts here.
