JEFFERSONVILLE ? Louis Rosbottom of Jeffersonville has been named the USA Wrestling State Chairperson of the Year.

?This award was very unexpected and I am very thrilled,? Rosbottom said. ?I am very committed to the sport of wrestling in our state and to USA Wrestling, which provides the greatest path for our athletes to success.?

The award was announced at the USA Wrestling Annual State Leaders Conference, held in Oklahoma City during the weekend of Aug. 19-21.

Rosbottom points to the use of technology as a key achievement, and said that the Indiana State Wrestling Association plans to use technology to make wrestling meets more accessible via streaming video. Rosbottom also pointed to the state?s success running the Schoolboy National Duals each year.

?We have a 35-person board,? Rosbottom said. ?They are all very active ? coaches, parents, mat officials, pairers, everybody. We have good balance. It helps with our direction. We can listen to the needs of our members, parents and coaches. They have told us that Folkstyle (wrestling) plays an important role in our state, in addition to our international programs.?

Rosbottom has served as Indiana?s state chairman for the last five years, and has been a member of the ISWA board for 18 years. Rosbottom was the state  organization?s treasurer for four years before taking his current role.

Rosbottom and his wife Sharon found the Team Jeff Wrestling Club in 1991, for which Rosbottom served as president for the first 15 years of the club?s existence.
