4 Jeff wrestlers off to college

4 JEFFERSONVILLE HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS (INDIANA) SIGN WRESTLING SCHOLARSHIPS

On Tuesday, April 28th Becky Cissell signed her national letter of intent to the first year women?s wrestling program, King College of Bristol, TN.  She is joining coach Jason Moorman who has served as assistant men?s coach at King College before now taking over the reigns as head women?s coach.  Becky Cissell of Jeffersonville High School has shown great success at both the folkstyle and freestyle levels. Cissell was a five-time Indiana Folkstyle State Champion, 6-time Indiana Freestyle State Champion, 2009 PreSeason Folkstyle National Champion, and was a 2008 USAW Junior Freestyle All-American. ?Becky will contend at this level immediately,? said Coach Moorman, ?Her work ethic is phenomenal.? Cissell will be competing in the 55kg weight class next season. Cissell is the first women wrestler to ever receive a college scholarship from Jeffersonville High School, she is also the first women wrestler to wrestle all 4 years at Jeffersonville High School.  King College Women's Wrestling will be competing in the WCWA (Women's College Wrestling Association) next season.

On Monday, March 9th , senior team captain, Alex Bailey signed his national letter of intent to the NCAA Div.3 school, Trine University. He is signing with Head Coach Dan Callahan who just led Trine to a 3rd place finish in their region, and finished with a 21st national ranking.  Trine finished with and 11-5 dual meet record and won the Spartan Classic this year.  Additionally 8 Trine wrestlers earned academic all-conference this year, and one academic all-American.  Coach Callahan says: ?I?m especially pleased with the academic recognition. We tell our kids you can?t be truly successful if you don?t succeed in the classroom.?

Alex Becomes the first Jeff High wrestler to sign Trine. While at Jeff High Alex played soccer for 3 years and wrestled for all 4 years of high school, where he was a member of the 2007, 2009 Sectional and 2009 HHC Championship team.   Alex was a 3x semi-state qualifier, a 3x regional qualifier, a 2009 Conference Champion, and a 3 time Freestyle and Greco Roman State place winner. Alex finished his career at Jeffersonville High School with 106 career wins, as well as leading the team in Technical Falls his senior year.  Alex was named to Team Indiana 3x  for different honors traveling to Colorado, North Dakota, and Japan.

On Monday, March 11th John Clark signed his national letter of intent to the NJCAA school, Rend Lake Community College.  He is signing on with coach Kevin Tate who in 2 seasons as head coach has had 2 all-Americans, 4 national qualifiers, and 3 academic all-Americans.  John is signing on to wrestle 285 for the warriors.  While at Jeff High John  played football for 2 years and wrestled for all 4 years of high school, where he was a member of the 2007, 2009 Sectional and 2009 HHC Championship team.  In 2007 John pinned his opponent in the sectional finals to win sectionals by a ? point clinching Jeff High?s first sectional title in more than 15 years.   John was a 3x semi-state qualifier, a 3x regional qualifier, a 2x state qualifier,  a 1x Warrior Classic Champion, 1x Jeff Classic Champion, a 7 time Freestyle and Greco Roman State Runner up, 2x Sectional Champ, and a 2x Conference Champion.  This season John placed third at the IHSAA state finals.   John led the Red Devils this year with takedowns (109). John ended his career at Jeff High with 116 wins tying him as the #1 heavy weight in Jeff High Wrestling history. John was the 4th wrestler in Indiana history to be a double all-American in both Freestyle and Greco Roman wrestling.   John was a 4x member of Indiana?s national team going to Oklahoma, Iowa, North Dakota, and Pennsylvania for different honors.  He was even invited to spend a week at the Olympic Training center last summer.  John is the 3rd Jeff High wrestler to sign a scholarship this season, and will make the 8th currently wrestling in college.

On March 15th Tyler Tatgenhorst signed his national letter of intent to the NJCAA school, Rend Lake Community College.  He is signing on with coach Kevin Tate who in 2 seasons as head coach has had 2 all-Americans, 4 national qualifiers, and 3 academic all-Americans.  Tyler is signing on to wrestle 174/184 for the warriors.  While at Jeff High Tyler played football and wrestled for all 4 years of high school, where he was captain of the 2009 Sectional and HHC Championship team.  Tyler was a 3x semi-state qualifier, a 4x regional qualifier, a 3x Warrior Classic Champion, 2x Jeff Classic Champion, and a Capitol City Champ, Sectional Champ, and a Conference Champion.  Tyler led the Red Devils this year with wins (43) and Team Points (206) as well as decisions and most first takedowns.  Tyler ended his career at Jeff High with 149 wins (putting him 4th on the all-time list) and setting the record for the #1 215lbs wrestlers in Jeff High history.  Between Tyler and his younger brother Darien, they have compiled for 209 career victories putting them as the 141st best wrestling family in the history of Indiana wrestling (the state statistics rank out the top 600).  Darien still has 2 more years left.  The #1 wrestling family happens to be the Doherty family from Jeff High with 539 wins.  Tyler is the 4th Jeff High wrestler to sign a scholarship this season, and will make the 8th currently wrestling in college.
