I would also like to echo Coach Myers sentiments on Eric's weekend. What a wonderful weekend for him & Jay County. He is a very bright & humble young man who learns from his experiences. We were very happy with the way he wrestled in his loss against Dominique Stauffer [Elkhart Central]. He was pinned by Dominique @ semi state but lost a hard fought 5-2 bout this weekend. His defeat of Kaden Suter [Martinsville] for 3rd only bolstered his upset win versus Donte Winfield [Perry Meridian]. Both of these young men are amazing athletes. He is also blessed to have a wonderful set of parents who have helped him through their faith in God to be thankful for his blessings. With that being said the road to state begins again for Eric & his fellow Patriots today.

Abraham is a very bright & personable young man. I had a chance to speak with him between rounds. He was very insightful on what he needed to do against each opponent each round. He gave our wrestler some input prior to his 3rd place match. It was really deserving for a young man like him to receive the mental attitude award. On a side note, when we spoke he stated he planned to attend UI & hopefully wrestle as a freshman. Looking at some other post I'm guessing his dad is Wade Hall. He was @ UI when I was a freshman @ AU. Great wrestler and great sportsman.

cornell and penn state has awesome incoming class for 2011-2012 to keep the mat wars going. CORNELL WRESTLING ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell wrestling team, which has finished an unprecedented second at the NCAA championships in each of the last two seasons, will add six top student-athletes to the roster for the 2011-12 campaign. All six either won national or state titles during their prep careers. Jacob Aiken-Phillips 285 pounds * Lawrenceville, Ga./Central Gwinnett HS Aiken-Phillips was a three-time state placer in Georgia, winning a heavyweight championship to go along with second and fourth place finishes. In his junior campaign, he set school and county records for pins in a season with 51. Aiken-Phillips twice earned All-America honors at the NHSCA Nationals, taking third as a junior and senior. Aiken-Phillips also captured the Super 32 championship in 2010 at 285 pounds. Jace Bennett 197 pounds * Amarillo, Texas/Randall HS Bennett was a Texas state champion and three-time medalist, also finishing second and fourth. He also placed twice at NHSCA Nationals, taking sixth as a junior and eighth as a senior. Last year, while competing for the Finger Lakes Wrestling Club, Bennett earned a spot on the podium in several open tournaments. He was the champion at the Edinboro Open, took third at the National Collegiate Open, fourth at Buffalo and fifth at Binghamton. Matthew Cunningham 174 pounds * Pittsburgh, Pa./Shady Side Academy Cunningham was a three-time Pennsylvania state medalist, who won the 171 pound championship as a senior after second and fifth place finishes in previous years. The four-time WPIAL champion was selected to represent Pennsylvania at the Dapper Dan Wrestling Classic in 2010. Cunningham was a two-time Powerade finalist, winning the event in 2009, and a two-time Ironman placewinner. Cunningham trained with the Finger Lakes Wrestling Club and competed at the Buffalo and Nittany Lion Opens at 174 pounds a year ago. Bricker Dixon 125 pounds * Kansas City, Mo./Park Hill HS Dixon was a four-time Missouri state finalist, capturing championships in his junior and senior seasons at 112 and 125 pounds. As a senior, the Intermat Top 50 recruit won the title at the KC Wrestling Classic at 125 pounds and took sixth at the Ironman tournament at the same weight. Dixon also earned All-America honors in freestyle at Junior Nationals in Fargo, North Dakota, including a sixth place medal in 2009 and a third place finish in 2010. He finished his high school career with a record of 177-10. Billy George 174/184 pounds * Long Branch, N.J./Long Branch HS George was a two-time NHSCA Nationals champion, earning the title as both a junior and senior at 189 pounds. One of Intermat's Top 100 recruits, George took fourth at Beast of the East and twice placed third at the New Jersey state tournament. He was also a starter at linebacker and running back in football, earning division Co-Defensive Player of the Year in his final season. George competed with the Finger Lakes Wrestling Club last season, earning third place finishes at the Cleveland State Open and the Edinboro Open and fifth at the National Collegiate Open. He was the winner of the B Bracket at the New York State championships. Nikkolas Pena 133/141 pounds * Selma, Calif./Selma HS Pena won two California state championships at 130 pounds. One of only 22 four-time placewinners in California history, he was sixth at 125 pounds as a freshman and third at the same weight as a sophomore after winning six straight in the wrestlebacks. The Intermat Top 100 recruit also captured fourth at the Ironman tournament in both 2009 and 2010 and stood on the podium twice at the Super 32 event, earning sixth in 2008 and fifth in 2009. Pena's career record was 172-23. PENN STATE WRESTLING UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State head wrestling coach Cael Sanderson and his outstanding staff of assistant coaches has announced the newest class of Nittany Lion wrestlers. Eight talented young men are set to join the defending NCAA National Champions for the 2011-12 season (the incoming class could expand over the summer as well). The class features a number of top-ranked high school wrestlers, including Intermat's National High School Wrestler of the Year, and the eight incoming wrestlers combined to win 15 individual state championships during their prep careers. "We are very pleased with the recruiting class that we have coming in," Sanderson said. "We believe that this class has the talent and, most importantly, the attitude to keep moving Penn State Wrestling forward." The incoming class includes (listed alphabetically): Matt Brown (West Valley City, Utah), Collin Campbell (Hurdle Mills, N.C.), Jordan Conaway (Abbottstown, Pa.), Luke Frey (Montoursville, Pa.), Morgan McIntosh (Santa Ana, Calif.), Nico Megaludis (Murrysville, Pa.), Scott Syrek (Chester Springs, Pa.) and Michael Waters (Advance, N.C.). Brown comes to Penn State after a two year Mormon mission. He will be red-shirt freshman in 2011-12. Campbell is one of two North Carolina natives in this year's recruiting class. The two-time North Carolina state champion wrapped up a stellar high school career with a second-straight heavyweight title in 2011. Campbell went 31-0 as a senior to win the crown for Person High School. A year prior, he posted a 37-0 mark to claim his first state title and leaves PHS with 119 career wins. An accomplished freestyle wrestler, Campbell was a Fargo All-American this past summer. Conaway is coming off an outstanding senior season at New Oxford High School. Conaway claimed his first Pennsylvania state title at 112 this past March, capping off a 38-3 senior season. The title follows a strong finish in 2010 that saw Conaway claim third place laurels at 103. Conaway continued his prep ascent this spring with a win over his Team USA opponent at the 2011 Dapper Dan Classic. Conaway leaves New Oxford with a 146-20 career record. Frey comes to Penn State from Montoursville High School where he was a Pennsylvania state champion and took second, third and fourth during four stellar high school years. Frey, the No. 39 ranked recruit in the nation at any weight by Intermat, leaves MHS with a 157-5 career record. He won the 103 pound title as a freshman, going 42-1. Frey took fourth at 112 the next year with a 41-2 mark and then placed second at 135 in 2010, finishing the year with a 33-1 record. Last year, Frey placed third at 140 and concluded his senior season with a 41-1 record. McIntosh, a California native, comes to Penn State as the No. 1 ranked recruit at any weight by Intermat. Named the national High School Wrestler of the Year by Intermat, McIntosh won three state titles in California, capped off by a 189 pound crown this past season. The Calvary Chapel High School product also won the 189 pound title in 2010 and the 171 pound crown in 2009. He took fifth at 160 as a freshman. McIntosh comes to Penn State after posting a stunning 189-5 career record (including 128 pins), will all five losses coming his freshman season. McIntosh went 41-5 during his first year of high school wrestling, and then reeled off three straight undefeated seasons (43-0 in 2009, 59-0 in 2010 and 46-0 in 2011). McIntosh also won the 2011 Dave Schultz High School Excellence Award, named in honor of the Olympic and World Champion and given to the top wrestler in the nation based on athletics, academics, character, citizenship and community service (future teammate and All-American David Taylor won the same award in 2009). An outstanding freestyle wrestler, McIntosh won the Fargo Junior National Championship this past summer. Megaludis, like McIntosh, comes to Penn State with a lofty overall national ranking. The Pennsylvania product is the No. 5 ranked recruit in the nation at any weight by Intermat. Megaludis was a three-time Pennsylvania State Champion, finishing his stellar high school career with a 170-1 career record. Megaludis began his career by posting a 37-1 record and taking third place at 103 as a freshman. A year later, the Franklin Regional product began a string of undefeated seasons that would lead to three straight PIAA titles. He went 46-0 in 2009 and took first at 112 and followed that up with a 36-0 campaign in 2010, taking the crown at 119. This past March, Megaludis capped off his high school career by winning the 125 pound championship in Hershey, ending the year with a 51-0 record. Megaludis joined future teammate McIntosh on the list of Dave Schultz High School Excellence Award finalists. He won the Northeast Regional honor, one of only five finalists for this year's honor. The award recognizes outstanding achievement in athletics, academics, character, citizenship and community service. Syrek had his senior year at Owen J. Roberts High School cut short by injury but looks to be ready to go for the start of the 2011-12 season. Despite only wrestling in 12 matches this past year (going 9-3 at 215); Syrek compiled an impressive 112-30 career record with 45 pins. He went 33-7 as a junior, 31-10 as a sophomore and 39-10 as a freshman. Waters, Penn State's other North Carolina native in this class, had an outstanding career at Davie High School. The Advance, N.C., native capped off his stellar prep run by posting a 55-5 record as a senior and winning the 125 pound North Carolina state title. Waters won the 112 pound crown as a junior in 2010 and took second at 112 as a sophomore in 2009. As a freshman, Waters took sixth.

is their a listing of elementary teams that compete during the high school season? our club coaches go against 2-3 teams now but would like to expand their schedule and see new competition. we are located in the muncie area/east central.

each of the 4 main coaches [goldman, degain, debuque, becker] have 10 primary areas of technique to instruct + 1 for coach's choice. athletes pick 3 areas from each coach to cover when working with them. over 4 days the camp is split into 8 groups. each session 4 groups train in 2 areas for 30 mi. & 4 groups train in 2 areas for 1 hour. they switch the second half of each session. live competition happens on days 2, 3 , & 4. another daily session is for training. athletes must pick between timed running, distance running, strength training, cross training, field training exercise, and ultimate football. it sounds like a blast and things will move to where no one should get bored from monotony.

nice job on ihswca clinic. hopefully you will have more coaches committ to the association. 1] terry steiner did a great job. his ending comments taking the usa women's position was inspirational. 2] great selection of vendors to help cover materials for coaches. 3] iu coaches did great job. really excited on the forward thinking with their program. 4] pu coaches was alright but choppy & didn't like venue of cafeteria for presentation. 5] wabash ?????????????????????????? 6] indiana tech did great job of insight on new program development. 7] local coaches did nice job but many tired faces that morning from the crowd.

i was very impressed with coach goldman & his staff @ the ihswca clinic. all 3 coaches went through some technique but kept the crowd interested. the future format of the summer camps is very exciting. we have sent kids to michigan in the past because of the structuring coach goldman is considering. we will definitively look @ iu based on this change. the coaches were very up to date on trying to network their team with current forms of communication. now the job for the iu coaches is to take their young team and make some noise this coming season on the mat. good luck hoosiers!

we will see how much he is able to help out. he has his own wrestling gym as well as numerous speaking engagements. the more he is around for uw-ww the bigger impact mr. kemp will make. a true legend.

wow! psu is doing the right thing by handling it now & hopefully he gets some sort of disciplinary act. he deserves a second chance but he also needs to answer for his conduct. being an elite college athlete is a something that should be respected not taken for granted. young eyes are watching his actions. i'm sure this is a huge distraction for cael as he readies himself for the world championships.

spartandog is correct that complaining in september or in february will not change these weight classes. the ihsaa and nfhs will change things again down the road. history always repeats itself. it will be interesting to see if it helps or hinders teams @ the top and bottom of their line-ups. i like moving the lower weights due to forfeits & college recruiting. also, the upper weight change has helped us thus far. wc182dad also made a valid statements about fb coaches not wanting injuries to in-season athletes. i would be upset if a kid missed the state wrestling tournament due to an injury @ some fb combine testing.
