Yes, Delta would definitely be up there. Delta had at least 1 state champ per year for 8 yrs in a row....1980-87. The Original Bloomington HS had at least 1 state champ per year from 1933-1951! However, the IHSAA did not sponsor a state tournament from 1944-49.

Its my understanding the Delta job is now open.

Impossible to measure the positive impact he had on the IHSWCA, Logansport Wrestling, & Indiana Wrestling in general. R.I.P., Mr. Patacsil.

I have no reason to believe these stories (Cash, Harvey, etc) are anything but 100% true. However, for every 1 of these examples, i can think of 10 others who decided not to cut "ANY" weight their senior year & had the worst season of their HS career. "Cutting a little weight" & "starving" are two very different things. Its about getting the fat off & finding that weight class in which you are most competitive.

It was unfortunate for sure state got snowed out at MSA in 85. BUT, New Castle did a helluva job making it the best they could given the circumstances.

I think I remember hearing that 1987 LN state champ H. Waddington did just that.

Im fairly certain Elwood has won it multiple times as well as Pend Hts, Anderson, & And Highland. I believe Alexandria won their first/only title within the last few years.

Coach McCormick hit the nail on the head when he mentioned what his father would've said. The fear of what my dad would've done after finding out I skipped practice would've kept me from showing him the blisters in the first place. Another example of kids not really being the root of the bs we deal with as teachers/coaches. KBoyer

Several years ago (actually decades ago), there was a trend in education called "open concept" schools. These schools didnt have walls separating classes. Students/teachers could see & hear what was going on in other classes all around them at the same time. There is a reason why "open concept" schools didnt last long. KBoyer

I think we should. I tend to believe there is a very simple reason why the small/middle weight kids are the most likely to fall in love w/ wrestling, therefore becoming the most dedicated. They are often the same kids who got discouraged in other sports because they sat the bench, despite being the hardest workers, because they werent 6' tall and 200 lbs. KBoyer

I know by the title, there may be a record high number of hits on this topic. This is a fundraiser for our wrestling program. PUMP-N-RUN RULES 1. Participants must weigh in front of an event rep. @ 12 noon Saturday August 6, 2011. 2. Bench pressing will begin immediately following the completion of weigh-ins. An event rep. will calculate the amount to be bench pressed once weigh-in is done. The participant?s lifting weight will be rounded to the nearest 5 pounds using graph below. Weigh-ins will be done in t-shirt, shorts, no shoes. Men Age Percentage 18 & Under 80% 19-39 90% 40 & over 80% 3. Bench press will be done in front of and counted by an event rep. A full press must be done to be counted. An event rep. will record your reps for the race director. 4. An event rep. will confirm completion of each acceptable bench press by counting out the number completed (in a single set) and will record final number for the race director. 5. After completing the run Saturday evening, 30 sec. will be taken off of the participants 5k time for every time they were able to bench press the calculated weight. You are allowed a MAXIMUM of 30 reps This event will be held @ Hagerstown Jr. Sr. High School, 701 Baker Road, Hagerstown, Indiana 47346. The bench press portion of this event will take place @ 12pm. Mr. Blubaugh was certainly in the same elite category as other American wrestling iconic names like Gable, the Petersons, Hodge, & Cliff Keen. It was always impressive to me how positive and eager to help others he was while it seemed life constantly dealt him a bad hand of cards. I always enjoyed talking with him and picking his brain at clinics. He was a Front Headlock Machine! Huge loss for wrestling. KBoyer

First, allow me to apologize in advance if this has already been discussed and I missed it or have forgotten. This idea is based on the fact that most coaches today (who are teachers) do not have a "life license", therefore, we must accumulate 90 contact hrs OR 6 college credit hours every 5 yrs to "renew" our teaching license. My question or thought is this: Would it be possible to offer a type of seminar/workshop in conjunction with our IHSWCA clinics in which teacher/coaches could accumulate a few contact hrs to apply toward their license renewal? Surely, we could come up w/ a workshop topic appealing to all coaches who attend the coaches clinics (teachers and lay coaches) that would also satisfy the Dept of Ed's criteria for license renewal credit hrs. Personally, I would be interested as a teacher and a coach to attend a seminar on a topic such as: Adolescent psychology, nutrition, exercise physiology, sport law, athletic administration, athletic injuries - care and prevention, etc. Here's some reasons why I think this might help some individual coaches as well as increase IHSWCA membership and clinic attendance. 1) Some schools have stopped allowing coaches to take "professional days" to attend coaching clinics. Perhaps, they may if there are "professional" teaching benefits. 2) Appeal to those who don't always attend clinic on a regular bases..........attend clinic AND benefit as a teacher......kill 2 birds w/ 1 stone. 3) Another way to prove that we (IHSWCA) are a professional and legitimate organization. 4) More educated coaches is always a good thing.
