Easton was usually 1-2 lbs.  under Thursday-Friday.  Eating 3 times a day through the week.  Pick a weight, like you said Nick, that you can concentrate on getting better at wrestling and not loosing weight.  Made the most difference in Easton's success this year.  It does take some discipline on both the wrestlers and parents, but meal prepping was also a huge part of it.  We would cook all his meat (chicken, hamburger, steak, pork chops) on Sunday or Monday for the week and he would pack it for his lunches and take to school.

So many little things go into being successful and these are just a few.  It takes time also, this has been something me as a father, his mother and Easton have been trying to dial in for a few years now.

So here's another example I was looking for--It sounds like Easton "Managed" his weight rather than focussed a ton on cutting.

  2. I am curious of your opinions on this topic.  Obviously, somebody mentioned that Hockaday didn't "cut weight," but do you feel its necessary to cut weight weight?  I'm in a coach's group message and we have awesome debates all the time.

In my opinion there's a difference between cutting weight and managing weight.  For example, our champ, Chase Leech, weighed 182-184 pre season, and practiced a couple of days and was under 175.  When we arrived back to the hotel after the finals, Chase was 4 pounds under weight.  I would say Chase managed a weight and did not cut weight.  *This decision to go 175 was based on focussing on getting better at wrestling and not fighting the scale.

All of that being said, I don't think it's as possible to do what Chase did at the lighter weight classes.  (Hockaday would be the exception, and possibly Hockaday "managed" his weight as well.).   In many cases I think it can give a kid a mental edge if they have to do work to make a weight class...

    Thoughts?

  3. Garrett so far with high school only

Hayden Lee X-3rd-6th *Left state/Ohio Champ

    Hayden Brady Qualifier-Qualifier-4th-Qualifier

    Clayton Fielden x-x-2nd-2nd

    Chase Leech Qualifier-Qualifier-x-1st

could add in ISWA stuff, but let's not...

    national stuff

Hayden Lee Super 32 All American

Clayton Fielden FS Fargo All American

Zak McCray GR Fargo All American

What a silly argument-no direction to you...just in general...and I'm only quoting you because you posted last.  I'm not picking on you.  I think Delta wins at least 6 matches, but that's all I can say.  It's so silly that a school that south who really doesn't pay attention to Delta...and a school like Delta doesn't pay attention to EMD, we decide to formulate a "what if" prediction on...unless they're paying attention to each other for certain weight classes...we can't predict remotely accurately what would happen unless we know the "weak classes" per team...everybody knows the studs and can guess there, but winning the dual meet comes down to whose "weakest links" are stronger.

And all I mean is this argument would be like saying, "Indiana's 2a champ would beat Missouri's 2a champ!"  Sure, maybe, I don't know.  Would they?  It's all speculation.

Delta should bump up if you’re that good. Scared?

After months of trying to organize a 2A team state wildcard tournament, we are officially pivoting this event to a traditional 6-way.

Peru & Owen Valley were the only two to adapt their schedule to attend.

I sent a ton of emails to 2A schools and didn't get much traction.

A few schools had conference obligations.

But overall a bunch of schools just didn't want to change their legacy schedule.

It was disappointing to see the schools that don't value the team state tournament/ don't understand what to do to put their teams in a place to qualify.

That being said. We have openings for our 12/9 6-way that I will be posting on the other thread.

We are contractually obligated to a few things and we weren't going to drop the Al Smith or our own invite...that being said there's more than one way to skin a cat--we were able to get into an individual tournament where our kids will be pushed in a similar way they're pushed at the Al Smith..I couldn't pass up on that, but because of that, If we're voted into team state we will have to do even more flipping and flopping , but our intent is to perform well enough to be put into team state for sure!  We love the event!!!

You're wrong..without no explanation....no foot to stand on...allies gang up on me....Give me all the ammo..I'm probably going to get to party for at least half a decade...At least I talk stuff with reasonable backup....Andy trying to get me kicked off...If these predictions made you mad: think about next year.  Of course I don't mean you but you get me.  I'll put it out there: 2024 The Roar shall be fully restored.

I love you, truly, but choo choo 😂🤣🤪

I’d just like to say this may be the most talented pool of Ft. Wayne wrestlers I’ve ever had to rank in the last 7 years. Top ten really doesn’t do some weight’s depth(113, 120, 195) any justice as there are some very quality kids on the outside looking in. The top ten at 152-170 are absolute meatgrinders that could go plenty of different ways. The gap between being #5 and #10 is so marginal at over half the weights.

    Extra shout outs to:

The Maconaquah regional as a whole. A few years ago they were the butt of a lot of jokes on this forum, now they’re possibly the deepest of the four. Don’t think people want to draw into that #1 as much as they used to.

Freshman, who just seem to keep popping up on the radar more and more each week. I don’t have numbers for proof, but I’m feeling confident that this year probably has the most freshman I’ve ever put in the rankings/on the watch list.

Garrett, who seems to have a knack for “upsetting” kids with great resumes this year and giving me an aneurism trying to figure out what to do.

Thanks for the shout out Caleb!

  10. Norwell had two starters out, I believe...one for sure,  but that being said, it doesn't mean results change, and yeah, Oak HIll deserved in.  Oak Hill is always solid and will continue to be solid with the continuity in the program.  You'll be back! ... 2a was tough this year top to bottom, which I'm sure didn't make things easy on the rankers/seeders/vote in.

IMO it's really hard to seed 2a because of stereotypes, such as "They don't wrestle anybody."  Teams can only control their schedule to a certain extent, with conference by laws.  How do you compare a 20-0 team who has wrestled teams to be perceived as below average, compared to maybe a 15-4 team, who has wrestled a really tough schedule?  It's hard to do.

We've been under seeded, and over seeded.  It happens.  It's a tough job, but I think you all do a great job and I'm happy we have this awesome tournament!

Love ya Chuck. Don’t forget every Monday and Thursday at The Fort we had practices all spring, summer, and up to the wrestling season. There were always State qualifiers, medal winners, and semi-state qualifiers. Those same kids are doing great this year. Heck you helped do the wiring. Not to mention national level camps and clinics. Then live nights to sharpen the last couple months before season started.

It has to be built.   It’s being built.  I know for a fact there’s multiple ISWA state placer winners at the youth level at The Fort every practice.

I also know Warrior has the same thing.   Both main places in Fort Wayne are drawing from different areas, which is going to work out very well for our semi state in the very near future.   I wouldn’t be surprised to see Fort Wayne with more top 4 placers (consistently) in the near future.

Not to mention area programs with their schools clubs have tried to work around the schedules of the bigger “academies.”
