  1. Anyone? Something--doo economics. Voodoo Economics.......
  2. This is in no way directed at Portage, but rather the "Varsity 2" situation in general. With the "Varsity 2" situation as long as your open and honest in advance with who you are planning on sending to an event then I don't see an issue with it. Key players like event organizer and the other school commit to these events based on certain team participants and event expectations. So I feel they should be provided some type of disclosure if a big change occurs. Sending a "Varsity 2" (usually a big drop in skill level) in the place of the expected "Varsity 1" would seem a big enough change to warrant some type of contact. Not being upfront with this type of information only adds to complains about "Varsity 2" which may eventually cause school administration and the IHSAA to rethink our ability to use it. For teams that have a large roster they want to ensure their top JV kids enough may time to improve and stick it out. Sending "Varsity 2" to certain events is a great avenue for this and I would hate to lose that option due to some coaches using it as a way to game the point system, avoid certain team/individual match ups, or because a sudden opening occured at a more desirable event.
  3. Not a bad showing from Walsh, something to at build off of as the competitions gets tougher down the road. The placement does qualify Walsh for the Greco Olympic Team Trials. 75 kg: 1- Bislan Assakalov (Russia) 2 - Petter Karlsen (Norway) 3 - Taylor Walsh (USA) 3 - Mateusz Wolny (Poland) 5th - Esa Jarvinen (Finland) 5th - Petros Manoulidis (Greece)

But on the other hand the Freestyle at 75kg division is kinda spoken for at the moment.
  7. I'm guessing you mean Richey from Brown County. Brownstown has never gotten their wrestling program started.
  8. It served Matt Hughes well though many years of UFC intros.
  9. Micic had a big lead on Graff but couldn't hold onto it losing 11-10.

    Super 32

Thanks for the two days worth of updated Maligned. Had a busy weekend so it was great that someone was able to keep us informed of the Indiana kids progress.

    Super 32

Rypel Super 32 Champ. #7-Sr. Blake Rypel, IN over #14-(at 220)-Sr. Christian Araneo, NY. 9-2.
  12. With all due respect to a quality American Poet I can't help but always think of the great Cubbie Ryan Sandberg first every time I see that Illinois schools name. I say it's about time he gets a school named after him.
  13. If Willie says it about major HS events then it's likely right. While the Super32 always has big brackets I know a few are ridiculously huge this year. Some might consider the wear and tear of such a grind at those weights to not be worth going through if your not 100%. With Red being the proven #1 after WNO he doesn't need to attend the event to show he deserve that ranking. Plus after just wrestling two super tough matches in one night recently he may be slightly dinged up and not wanting to risk any major issues associated with that much of a grind.
  14. Just wait until he breaks out the metallic gold suite at state.
  15. For all intensive purposes Oak Park is suburb/village area (same with River Forest) is within the greater Chicago area. They may have their own specific town setup and like the sense of independence, but basically is engulfed in Chicago in a similar way to Speedway or Broad Ripple have with Indianapolis. If you prefer by or right outside Chicago though, I guess I can go that route. But yes, a super power house team with most of their starters in the national rankings or at least honorable mentions. Penn will definitely have their hands full. If I recall correctly Carmel wrestled them at an event last year.
  16. Oak Park River Forest out of Chicago. Probably the top team in the nation last year and again this season. Their long time head coach Mike Powell (volunteer coach now) was a former IU wrestler. He's been featured in several articles as he battles a degenerative muscle disease.
