  1. I pointed this idea out back when the concept of a IHSWCA Team State events first started to get kicked around. Several people commented that they didn't want to give up going to some already established big local tournament or multi-dual unless it was to attend the State Dual Meet. I'm not sure how much those feeling have changed, but trying to figure out a particular date that most of the state can work their schedule around would be great.
  2. If you go to the trackwrestling event site and click on the Divisions option you can see how many SQ/SSQ were in each weight via the separation criteria.
  3. Girls gymnastics is considered the pairing to Boys Wrestling. And the IHSAA restricts boys from participate in girls gymnastics.
  4. To piggy back off of this notable thought, has someone tried to compile a list yet of those none SQ/SSQ who finished in the Top 3? Or even Top 5? I'd be happy too, but wont have the extra time to compile one for a few more days. In doing so they no doubt at to beat a SSQ or two along the way. It seems like those guys just earned some early consideration for next years Semi-State Rankings and the State Rankings watch list.
  5. You have two ways to think about this one. Best weight ever in terms of all time accomplishments by those wrestling in it. Best weight ever in terms of most accomplishments prior to and during that year by those wrestling in it. I'd say proven accomplishments maybe slightly trump all time in terms of how good the weight was that year, but there is merit to both.
  6. That extra sucks for the Day 2 one and done parents who also paid for the overnight stay. Hope that's fixed in the future.
  7. Now that the finals are starting we can begin to notice which none-SSQ/SQ made the Top 5. Always nice to see a few new names come up for discussion next year as some young guys rise to the occasion at off season event.
  8. Not quite sure about being done in one day unless they cut back on bracket size. However it would have been nice to see all the brackets narrowed down to the top 8, so everyone coming back at least got two matches the 2nd day. Stopping the brackets Just prior to the top 8 ment those guys had to come back the 2nd day with the potential of being one and done. If you are going to make people stay over night and attend a 2nd day, at least make it worth their while by getting them to a spot where they get two matches. Running that extra round day 1, would also cut a round off day 2 helping the event finish in early the afternoon Sunday so those traveling a long distance can get home at a decent hour.
  9. It does show he has numbers willing to attend events and some are winning matches. That's always a positive.
  10. Yeah I'd say the issue is on the athletic association of Texas since she tried to be in the boys division and it was denied.
  11. Trackwrestling. Search Indiana and it will come up.
  12. Always a positive. At least everyone has a shot at getting a few good matches in.
  13. Could a few be at 113. Even with the 4lb allowance, with two weeks of eating, I'd guess a few guys moved up a weight class for this event.
  14. Some decently big brackets and potential for some good match ups. But I did possibly notice one thing. If I'm looking at this right, people from the same qualifier are meeting first round and some of (or all) the high placers from the qualifier didn't get seeded in the bracket based on their placement at that event. From a quick glance, I'm noticing a few high qualifier placers that will get a SQ or SSQ in the early rounds. I get you eventually have to face everyone, but I'm wondering what's the point of the qualifier if placing high in it didn't give you some type of advantage at the state meet and people from the same qualifier are seeing each other again first round. I would have thought the track program could have easily populated the top 2 or 3 qualifiers from each area into the bracket as the 3rd criteria after SQ and SSQ and mix the two qualifiers. Maybe next year.
  15. In general its to speed up the process of getting everyone weighed-in, as well as, it give them move areas to host the weight-ins since you don't have to be as discrete. From what I am told from coaches it is 4 pounds over normal scratch weight for weigh-ins on just Saturday before the tournament. So 120 needs to be under 124.0. Then the additional 2 pounds, 6 total pounds over scratch weight, for weigh-outs on Saturday night (or if you miss it 2nd chance weigh-in Sunday morning). So 120 needs to be under 126.0. But, I hav not read this in a official statement from the tournament coordinators.
  16. Jake Ruberg and his dad got some camera time too. Jake has some great words about putting in work immediately to be ready for the next level. http://www.flowrestling.org/video/1112585-jake-ruberg-training-the-day-after-placing-at-state#.WK8XYNIrK1s http://www.flowrestling.org/video/1112579-ruberg-and-son-credit-spatola-for-wrestling-growth#.WK8XcdIrK1s Both of them are actually from there. Zeb Miller from GohioCast visited there over the weekend. Here is a link to the entire video set. http://www.flowrestling.org/event/254966-spatola-wrestling/videos For those of you that don't know Spatola is a former Indiana University Wrestler who now runs wrestling school out of Cincinnati. Its had some pretty successful wrestlers come through over the last few years.
  17. But it maybe just enough time to try and stall with style if you have the early lead. With the shorter times I would hope the refs call stalling, as well as, stalemates a little quicker.
  18. The kids still putting in work right after winning state. http://www.flowrestling.org/video/1112632-mason-parris-training-day-after-dominating-indiana-state#.WK5WzDw8KEc http://www.flowrestling.org/video/1112591-indiana-vs-ohio-big-man-live-go#.WK5Y-Dw8KEc http://www.flowrestling.org/video/1112570-big-guys-live-go-2#.WK8XAtIrK1s
  19. Currently Trackwrestling would be your video vault of recent events. The IHSAA makes a video available to purchase of several old ones. I'm guessing with copyright rules posting some of those videos on outside websites may not be perfectly legal. But, I'm glad to have any access to footage from the "good old days."
  20. Glad someone else noticed that hidden nugget.
  21. I kinda went 50/50 Senior Season & Rest of HS career with my thought process. I ranked my top picks for best senior season and tournament finish. Then ranked my top picks for best combined Fresh-Junior seasons and tournament finishes from the group of Seniors. I combined the rankings for the two lists and came out with Bailey as my most deserving pick.
  22. I assumed something happened to his and he had to find a loaner. I've never heard the actual story though. Maybe someone on here knows.
  23. Brimm is at 189 on this on. 2nd video.
