Coaches of the 36 teams participating in the 2014-15 IHSWCA Classed Team State Duals at Ball State University ---- You should have received a couple of emails today from me regarding submission of results for seeding and bracket building for the event... and submission of your projected starting lineup for the event promotional guide/program. Please be sure to read these instructions closely and submit your team's results and projected starting line-ups by next Sunday, Dec. 21. If you have any questions, please contact me. 4. I just shared my discontent with our local newspaper's sports guy the other night. I certainly understand that budgets are tight and decisions have to be made to "sell newspapers", but there seems to be no "meat" in our local wrestling stories these days. Due to turnover rates of sports beat writers and an overall ignorance of our sport, they tend to want to write about "warm and fuzzy" stories like "brothers on the same team." Although this isn't necessarily a bad human interest story, they never seem to want to cover the X's and O's of our sport. Just as a sports writer in Delaware County starts to understand wrestling; that is about the time they take another job elsewhere and we get another newbie who has to be re-educated. Kudos to those sports writers and newspapers who still value and support wrestling at the high school and youth levels. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the sports of football and basketball... but my goodness... I can only take reading about "Smithville" beating "Jonesville" in basketball 51-22 so much. I enjoy reading something else on occasion about kids and teams from minor sports who are also having success. Coach McCormick

  6. An unintended consequence resulting from the formation of the IHSWCA Team State Duals has been the conflict created with long-standing holiday tournaments around the state. In the next month or so, the IHSWCA would like to solidify the date for our Team State Duals for the 2015-16 season. As we look to secure this date, we would like to get an idea of when schools plan to host their holiday events next season. We certainly cannot guarantee that we will not be in conflict with certain dates, but it would be good information to have. It is likely that the IHSWCA's first choice for this event will be a Saturday if at all possible; we would then look to weekdays as a secondary option to host the event (depending on how the calendar falls). 2015-16 Holiday Calendar at a Glance Dec. 19, 2015 (Saturday) -- likely the beginning of many school systems' holiday breaks Dec. 24, 2015 (Thursday) - Christmas Eve Dec. 25, 2015 (Friday) -- Christmas Day Dec. 26, 2015 (Saturday) -- likely not a great choice to host an event being the day after Christmas Jan. 1, 2016 (Friday) -- New Year's Day Jan. 2, 2016 (Saturday) -- Could be an option for tournament despite being the day after New Year's Day Any feedback and/or insight on this topic would be much appreciated as we look to plan for 2015-16. 10. After communicating with Coach Alcorn the other day, I was told New Pal will not be at Mt. Vernon. Yorktown is looking forward to participating in this event. This will be my team's first trip to southern Indiana during my 27 years as the head coach at YHS. We want to thank Coach Alcorn for allowing us to be a part of this great event, and we look forward to wrestling in southern Indiana over Thanksgiving weekend. Coach McCormick
  11. The IHSWCA Team State Duals tournament planning committee will be meeting with Ball State officials next week. We will be doing a "walk thru" of the facilities and inventorying their technology capabilities and protocols. FW Eastside accepted their bid, so all 36 positions in this event are full at this time.
