  1. Franklin Duals (1/7) -- Franklin, Holt (MI), Jeffersonville, Ben Davis, Triton Central, Yorktown Holt has several ranked wrestlers (152, 160 and 189). Their 160 is ranked #1 in MI (D1). There are several ranked wrestlers scattered throughout the 5 Indiana teams. Should be some good duals Saturday in Franklin. 2. Cael went 6-1 and placed 3rd at the Lock Haven Classic on Thursday, Dec. 29. He wrestled at 165. This brings his current record to 19-5 in NCAA "split squad" tournament action. On an academic note, Cael made Dean's List in his first semester at West Point. Respectfully Submitted, Coach McCormick
  3. I want to thank a few people who worked directly with me in preparing for this season's Team State Duals event. I am sure JD (Minch) will have others to recognize who assisted him at the event. * Adrian Troyer -- thank you for all of the work you did last spring during the selection process. This guy is extremely thorough and his attention to detail is matched by few. Great job Adrian! * Dane Fuelling -- thank you for the massive job you have in gathering data on the teams quickly and seeding the event in a relatively short amount of time. Please thank your committee personnel as well. Job well done! * JD Minch -- it's always a pleasure working with you JD. I have enjoyed our trips to Ft. Wayne in the fall, meeting with Coliseum personnel and other planning committee members, and working with you in putting on a great event for the teams and fans at this event. * Tim Smith -- In addition to Yorktown team responsibilities, this guy has also taken on the task of setting up the mats, taping them, and mopping them the past few years. If you want something done right, call Tim! You're the best Tim! Thank you! * Melissa Ritchie -- Melissa is our athletic office secretary at Yorktown. She prepares and handles all of the team contracts for this event. Great job Melissa... and thank you for being a team player. * Pat Culp -- Another great job Pat! No one has to worry when you are on the job. You are a true professional and a joy to work with. * Patt VanHorn -- Thank you Patt for everything you have done in staffing the event with volunteers. Your hard work doesn't go unnoticed. * Joe Caprino -- Thank you Joe for promoting the event on Indianamat and providing current tournament info. to wrestling fans across the state. I hope the improvements we made to this year's event met with the teams' and spectators' expectations. Great job to all of the teams who participated this season. Happy Holidays, Trent McCormick
  4. We currently have 20 wrestlers registered for this "small group" camp setting. Flyer can be downloaded from the initial post in this thread (above). If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. Coach McCormick 765-282-9136 tmccormick@yorktown.k12.in.us
  5. Great job Chase! I have always enjoyed watching you wrestle. Keep up the great work! Coach McCormick
  6. Here is my experiment. Let's try this. In the same spirit that we treat the "team aspect" of wrestling in IN, let's take IHSAA football back to single class. Yes, that means small and mid-size public schools across the state will have to go through Carmel, Center Grove, Warren Central, (fill in the rest of the big schools here) to win a state football title. Heck, those smaller schools won't even win sectionals or regionals anymore if this is implemented! So how long do you think it would take for reality to set in for these small to mid-size football teams/schools? When the realistic hope of ever getting to shine in the limelight gets squelched, participation will dwindle. Here's something else I will remind you of (that has certainly been shared before). Ohio Wrestling (Classed) -- they have pretty darn good wrestling and participation there Illinois Wrestling (Classed) -- they have pretty darn good wrestling and participation there Pennsylvania Wrestling (Classed) -- they have pretty darn good wrestling and participation there Iowa Wrestling (Classed) -- they have pretty darn good wrestling and participation there Keep filling in the list from here.
  7. "Class Wrestling" is really the only meaningful maneuver at this point that will increase participation in our sport.
  8. Yorktown will be at the Bellefontaine Duals in Ohio this Saturday: Bellefontaine, Urbana, New Lexington, McClain, Springfield, St. Paris-Graham Black, Mechanicsburg, Yorktown (IN), Canal Winchester, Northridge
  9. Congratulations Coach Allen and family! He has paid his dues at many levels of football across the midwestern and southern United States. He will now install his own brand as a head coach in the Big Ten. He will do a great job. I have no doubt!
  10. Winter Youth Camp - 2017.doc With many schools in Indiana out of school until Jan. 4 or 5 on winter break, we will be hosting an overnight (1 night) youth camp at Yorktown on Jan. 2-3. Please find the camp flyer below with all of the camp details. If you would like flyers mailed to you, please email Coach McCormick (email below) your mailing address. I would be happy to email a flyer to anyone as well. Thank you, Coach McCormick tmccormick@yorktown.k12.in.us
  11. We are still in need of 1 more full size (i.e. - 40x40 or 42x42) mat for the IHSWCA Team State Duals event on Dec. 23. School/club would need to drop the mat off Thursday afternoon at the FW Coliseum... and then pick it back up Friday evening. You will receive a $300 donation to your school/club for providing this mat. If interested, please contact Trent McCormick at tmccormick@yorktown.k12.in.us Teams bringing mats thus far: Garrett - 1 Mat IN Tech - 1 Mat Bellmont - 2 Mats Adams Central - 3 Mats New Haven - 1 Mat Yorktown - 3 Mats Thank you, Trent McCormick
  12. Ben Harvey (Army R-Freshman) has claimed the varsity slot at 174 in the Black Knight's starting line up thus far this season. Ben has been battling hard and placed 3rd at this past weekend's Roadrunner Open in California - hosted by CSU-Bakersfield. Ben went 4-1 and had a very strong performance.
