  1. I think what is missing is that simple word consistency. I don’t want to sound like I’m bashing officials cause I’m not. I in no way want to diminish what Me Deters did. He deserved to win the state championship. My complaint is when the referee awarded 2 then it was over turned (which I would have protested as well) the ref just went on other refs call. Why wasn’t the time keeper at the table asked.....same in Fieldon and Wagners other 170 semi final match. I’ve had many 5 or 6) say it was 2 but time was up. I asked another ref there and he didn’t think it was 2. My question is the ref in charge on the mat unless obviously wasn’t sure should at least check with other official and table. By the way....if Indiana really wants to get and keep greatvrefs we better get away from this rotating 5 or how ever many years it is to ref at our biggest tournament of the year. I’m not a fan of participation trophies. If a ref is good enough to be b voted in 10 years 8n a row.....kudos to him. (Like saying a wrestler can go to state his senior year only). If a ref is a rookie but does a great job he should get voted in. We’re always going to struggle getting the numbers of officials but more importantly the quality of officials I believe with our system. We have a lot of good refs and need more coming in. I’m just not real sure your going to get people real excited to stay long term with the system we’re using.
  2. I hate complaining about officials because I feel over all they are great at what they do and I have officiated many years myself. My sons match at 170....other 170 semi final amongst some others I know had some controversy. It’s funny that ive had a few referees apologize about the match saying it was a takedown but time was out. Other refs said it wasn’t a takedown but the time was still not out. They award 2 then after the challenge (which I would have done myself) they change the call. The problem I had is not either ref checked at the table with time keeper how much time their was. I watched the Fielden and Wagner semi as well at 170 and again very similar ending. I heard many people from all over the state talk about the stalling or lack of calls they have ever seen at a state tournament. Of course refs make mistakes and this isn’t to bash refs but more that at the state level make sure you get it right if possible. The second official should not be able to over ride without absolutely knowing the call by the head ref officiating the match has called. I’ve been on both sides of this as a coach and ref. I have not and will not bash the refs because I in no way want to diminish or belittle the state championship won by Mr. Deters. He won and earned the victory. I just hate when so much talk about our state finals is on officials not making calls, or not getting in position etc. I think it re emphasizes my first post on this thread when I started it about the way to get officials isn’t a rotating system.... I’m not a fan of participation trophies. You earn it.....if you get in 10 years in a row you earn it and are voted in. If your a rookie but one of the best you deserve to be in there. Bashing officials will never build it where it needs to be.....but there definately needs to be a change to the system if we want the quality as well as quantity of officials we want.
  3. I’m sorry I didn’t get it. Can you try again or call me. 574-315-7474. Jimcam4@icloud.com. Thanknyou
  4. Looking for one or 2 suites if you have any. Thanks
  5. Joe that’s my question. Your right I don’t have a clue on this topic. All I know is people don’t know and wants to know. I hear all the time about we’re losing good refs and struggling getting refs. What is the system? How can it change? What needs changed? What’s in the works? Etc
  6. Politics are obviously playing a huge part. Our “older” and let’s be honest many of our better refs arent going to hang around after 10 plus years if they have to wait another say 5 years to work a state tournament. I’m jut tired of hearing people crying and complaining when our system can...should.....and needs fixed.
  7. Can someone please explain the process of what and when referees work at semi state and state. This rotating and sitting out to me makes no sense. I think of someone like Mike Faulkner in Northern Indiana who is hands down one of the best and I think most agree yet if I see it right can’t go back for a few years. Why not allow the coaches voices in different sections of the state have a little more say and input of the refs they see often and have the ability in voting in the officials above the rotating schedule? You can even have and I’ve seen them....new first second or third year officials I would vote for. Tenure should not be rewarded as much as excellence. I think we’re struggling getting officials cause the system is watered down.
  8. Hall of fame coach Bob Read was honored as he coached his final home dual after 40 plus years at Plymouth high school. It was a special night watching past wrestlers come from literally all over the country to honor him. Coach hates any attention on himself but this was well deserving. I’ve known this man over 40 years and I can honestly say I’ve never met a man with more class, ethics and integrity in my life. The video tribute showed countless former wrestlers share how they have become the husbands, fathers and men they are because of the time and care coach poured into their lives. He’s had numerous state qualifiers, placers and champions but the mentoring he has poured into people is what last. I’ve never met a man who hates to lose and loves to win more but it’s the lessons in life that leaves the greatest marks on his wrestlers. He is a man that is driven by his faith, his family and simply pouring into young men’s lives. I felt like I was peeling an onion all night! Thank you coach Read for all you’ve done in this great sport in Plymouth and in Indiana. Well deserved.
  9. I agree wholeheartedly. We truly are blessed in Indiana to have this as a way not only to share personal “feelings” etc but it definately is helping build wrestling in Indiana. Joe and Mike and the “others” thank you very much. Your efforts and what you do are noticed.
  10. When you look at the number of wrestlers from those states competing compared to Indiana that says a lot. They put a lot of stock in Fargo and super 32
  11. Wanted to see if anyone can help clarify what is the criteria that dictates what schools go to what semi state. For example some schools that go to Fort Wayne are closer to East Chicago and vice versa. Is it based strictly on numbers? Thanks
  12. Great wrestling, a lot of out of state talent, great officiating. Kudos to Joe for running another great tournament. Will be hard pressed to find a better ran national caliber tournament like Joe runs. I’m just sad it was our last one
  13. Some of these comments are comical! I know both wrestlers well. Carson and Jake are both great wrestlers, great kids and the sky is the limit for both. Instead of being on the sidelines or on here talking about how one is so much better...let’s just say they are both great and enjoy a great match! Looking forward to seeing two of Indiana’s best go at it. Only sad point is it’s on a Friday night
  14. Once you’ve wrestled or coached or personally been to state finals you would be disappointed anywhere else. Nothing like Indiana wrestling at state tournament in the country. Hope we never Do what basketball did. Indiana wrestling is turning into a national power!
  15. Thanks joe and mike for making Indiana wrestling exciting! Great job
  16. Congrats my friend! So much respect for you and your family. Your an awesome wrestler but your faith, respect and character is what makes you such an amazing young man. I have enjoyed so much getting to watch you and get to know you on the national trips and teams. You will do fantastic. Congrats again
  17. Jordan is such a great kid. I get a kick out of people saying he doesn’t score enough points. He does what he’s supposed to do. He scores enough to get his hand raised most the time. We’ve known him for many years and the cool thing is he’s even a better person than he is a wrestler. Graham loves being around him and thankful they have got to wrestle on many teams together.
  18. Let me first say I in no way am putting down anybody in particular or acting like I’m the role model cause I’m the furthest from perfect, but I really think coaches need to take a step back and look in the mirror and realize our wrestlers watch our lives more than they listen to our words. I’ve been blessed at Plymouth to coach with coaches that in many years have impacted hundreds of lives. I’ve never heard a foul word out of their mouth nor is any wrestler aloud to use profanity. Their goal is always create young men of integrity first and champions in life then champions on the mat. I’m amazed when I see and hear coaches and athletes cuss back and forth.....see wrestlers yell at refs.....throw things in anger and nothing is done. On a positive I’ve watched people I respect and look up to like coach Snyder get in wrestlers faces yet put his arm around them and build them up....coach Harper from little kids to high schoolers speak life into his kids yet in their face. I don’t know a man in the world that loves winning more than coach Read or a man that hates to lose more than him but you ask anyone that’s gone through his program in 30 plus years and you will hear nothing but the utmost respect because of the integrity he walks in. Coaches your integrity is the most 8mportant part of your job with the kids we have in front of us. Impact lives. As our coach always says....”Do the right thing simply because it’s the right thing to do”. Your reputation is what others think of you but your character is what people see and you really are. It’s time coaches we lead from the front!
  19. Want wish all of you coaches a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year! Hope you all are able to relax and enjoy your families. Good luck on your second half of the year. Blessings
  20. Great job all the Indiana guys. We tried catching all the matches. I guess 8 don’t understand how it’s ran. We beat the champion and beat th3 kid 11-2 who beat the kid who got third. Finished 3-1 and finished 9th. Doesn’t matter I guess. We wen5 to wrestle some nationally ranked kids and get better. Great event
  21. Clint Gard I agree 100 percent on your reply about officiating like this at the state tournament. I understand we’re in need of officials and as a licensed referee I understand mistakes are made but what we saw last weekend was let’s just sat bad at best. For example we had a match against Jordan Slivka and let me say Jordan is a friend, a great family and deserved the win. Jordan beat us 2-1 in o.t. and deserved it. I’m just pointing out we did a go behind....knees and hand on the mat and under the arms and ref said know takedown. What upset me is when I went to the table....(no swearing, no yelling just talking he threatened me out of the tournament and it wasn’t debatable. Plamen Paskalev a two time Olympian and medalist was in the corner and said that’s just embarrassing. He sent the video to coach Tom Ryan at Ohio state and div 1,2 and 3 refs and they all said everytime it’s two. It’s not the fact the referee didn’t call it cause it was a quick thing it’s the fact the refs don’t care. I talked to refs there and was told after they saw the film it’s simply a judgement call and every ref is different. Than why have rulebooks. If your a ref I respect what you do.....but if you don’t know what your doing stay out of the state tournament. Learn what, how when and where things are to be done. Graham got some calls for him as well that should not have been in matches. It’s just hard to coach when you have young refs that has no clue on the rules.
  22. Someone please clarify this to me. We took a wrestler who went through weighins and skin check. The “dr.” Looked at the spot....examined it and said it’s fine just keep it wrapped. He wrestled twice and then the third match the official asked him to unwrap it and they then said he couldn’t wrestle anymore. In my opinion a refund should be given back to this family. Is this in the “norm” for an official to do this after passing skin check?
