Since FF's are now part of the Sectional Seeding Criteria, and favor the wrestlers that don't receive them, why count them at all?  I say team score should be kept from matches wrestled.  If a team only has 10 kids then team score should be kept from just those matches.

I think this would encourage schools to not schedule teams that can't field a full team.  It also might encourage some cases of teams suddenly not having a wrestler at certain weight.  This creates the opposite direction that we would like to take our sport.

Add another weight class between 220 and HWT to give 15 classes so that "normally" number of matches won would be the only tiebreaker needed. Make HWT just be 290 with no allowances and have the added class be 255.

The only problem with adding weight classes is that we already have too many forfeits and adding weight classes increases forfeits.

  3. ...a little more to that story.  The High School would not give us our varsity letters because we were in Jr. High and didn't attend the high school.  We had to contact the school board/superintendent to get the school to release our varsity letters while we were still at the Jr. High. Off topic a bit, but I thought you might find it interesting.

When I was in high school in the early to mid 90s our freshmen went to the junior high and wrestled other freshman teams only.

In the mid 70's when I was a Freshman, it was the same deal that we had Jr. High that was 7th, 8th and 9th grade.  I did wrestle on the varsity but there were very few Jr. High 9th graders that participated on any High School varsity teams.  My memory is a little blurred, but as I remember, I wrestled, 1 girl was on the varsity gymnastics team and 1 guy was on the varsity basketball team and we were the only freshman competing with the varsity.  It was difficult as I remember, because I had to walk from the Jr. High to the High School after school every day for practice. Most athletes participated on the freshman teams, however we did not have wrestling in our Jr. High at the time.

Crazy it took from 1959-1986 to get one. Now it’s happening about every 2 years from 2000-2019

I think, if I'm not mistaken, that many schools and maybe even an IHSAA rule during this time frame that freshman didn't compete on varsity teams. I bet the Ancient Elder could give us more accurate information about this.

US 40 and/or I70 are good options.  I would suggest going west on US 30 to Merrillville.  Hang a left on I65 , straight to Bankers Life.  This is the best route to avoid all those potholes.

If I was going to cut across on US 30, then I would catch US 31 in Plymouth and take it down to Indy.

Back in summer of 1987 I was on my states (not Indiana) Jr National team and we were issued/or given some gear.   I remember one outfit we received for being on the team  was a plastic sweat suit with my state team logos.   We thought it was cool.    I remember we  used to take  a stationary bike to our showers.   We would  turn the showers ran for while on as hot as it would go.  And we would ride the bikes with our plastic sweat suit with a sweat shirt over it. Probably not healthy in hind sight, but we made weight.

In the 70's when I wrestled, almost all of our team wore these plastic suits everyday in practice with sweats on under and over them.  Didn't think much of it at the time and we all always made weight.  Looking back it wasn't too smart, but we didn't know any better. However, we do know better now!!!

  8. I was at the same tournament and I've got to agree with ontherise on this topic.  We all have different opinions on certain calls, but from what I saw the officiating was pretty darn good.

We always are in need of more qualified officials so if you know someone that wants to be involved follow this:

In order to become a licensed IHSAA wrestling official you can follow this link for details on the process.http://www.ihsaa.org...72/Default.aspx

  9. When my son was in high school he took weight lifting class all 4 years.  This way he got his lifting in during school hours every day.  During in season he focused mostly on doing lighter weight and more reps.  On meet days, he typically wouldn't lift at all.  I recommend for all athletes to take advantage of this class if offered at your school and your schedules can allow it to happen.  In the spring about 3 weeks to a month after season was over he had increased his strength and his max greatly each year after he wasn't worried about maintaining weight.  I believe that he didn't lose strength and that it in fact increased because he continued his weight lifting during season.  Just my 2 cents.......
