DCHawks reacted to artie_wrestler in Team State qualification leaderboard 2023 (FINAL)
A little confused on the 3A.
Franklin Community is sitting pretty high with 6 Regional Qualifiers (all underclassmen). None advanced to Semi-State.
However, Martinsville sends 8 to Regionals with 5 underclassmen. Then 4 to semi-state with 2 underclassmen.
I believe the Mooresville sectional would have the "Crowdedness" factor. 31 of the 56 Semi-state Qualifiers come from the Mooresville sectional compared to the Avon sectional.
Just a little confused. Not complaining at all. And thank you for all your work and all you do.
Coming through the Mooresville sectional, Regional, and EV Semi is absolutely brutal.

Columbus East winning 3A State vs a very good Roncalli team, coming down to the final match. This coming after not being able to attend the prior year with a really good chance win a title. Good for the athletes and their families to share that moment.

DCHawks got a reaction from dawsdad in Hypothetical Semi-State Realignment
Here is a hypothetical Semi-State Realignment for discussions.
This doesn't involve moving teams from one sectional to another but instead looks at moving a whole sectional to a different semi-state. At first glance it does look silly that a school would drive to a farther semi-state location but this is happening in our current alignment, ie, Floyd Central and New Albany sectional location.
The thought about this realignment is to distribute the balance of "power" as much as possible with keeping travel distance in mind. Longest distance between a school and their semi-state location is under 155 miles, this is in line with our current alignment. This post isn't created to make anyone mad or upset but just something I have thought about the last couple days.
Six new schools would have to host a regional.
Tables of each semi-state are below
Changes
East Chicago Semi-State
Gains:
Frankfort Sectional
Loses:
Mishawaka Sectional
Fort Wayne Semi-State
Gains:
Mishawaka Sectional
Loses:
Delta Sectional
New Castle Semi-State
Gains:
Delta Sectional
Avon Sectional
Loses:
Crawfordville Sectional
Frankfort Sectional
Evansville Semi-State
Gains:
Crawfordville Sectional
Loses:
Avon Sectional
Please let me know your thoughts and any critiques on this hypothetical Semi-State Realignment.
Thanks

Edited: I removed classes from schools.

DCHawks reacted to Coach Brobst in Hypothetical Semi-State Realignment
Very interesting. I made a much more complicated move this summer when I was bored that involved a HUGE overhaul that I knew had no chance of ever being done. Because this keeps Sectionals the same but flips a few, it is a better start already.
I do question how "balanced" these semi-state would truly be. Moving Carmel, HSE, Westfield, and Fishers all up to the Northwest is intriguing, but they gain 4 4A schools and lose only 1 with Penn leaving to go to Ft. Wayne. I know that EC wasn't as deep as most years but that's a lot of 4A teams in one semi-state and leaves Ft. Wayne still with just 4 total (Homestead, Carroll, Northrop, and now Penn). New Castle doesn't change in talent either.
4A Breakdown would look this way (just a quick count, could be off by 1-2):
EC: 10
FW: 4
NC: 13
EVV: 5
New Castle meanwhile gains Brownsburg and Avon (not to mention Plainfield, who will bounce back, Ben Davis--who will only get better and Pike--who has the potential to be good with their size) AND takes on the Delta Sectional with those small school hammers. New Castle becomes the deepest in the state by far and EVV would become one of the easier 2 by far--as far as depth goes.
This plan makes Evansville more manageable, but Makes New Castle and EC much harder and keeps Ft. Wayne exactly as it is by only gaining Penn and Mishawaka while losing an up and coming Delaware County who is very talented and will be doing very well in the future with Delta, Yorktown, Cowan, and Daleville.
I just look at this as trading one problem for another. I was pretty gung ho that we needed to redistribute programs for the semi-states this summer, but as I've seen this year develop, I am more inclined to let it be because I see how cyclical things have been. I wouldn't hate moving some bigger Northern Indiana Schools or Indy Schools to Ft. Wayne so that it's a little more even as far as where the 4A schools are competing so that the depth disparity isn't so great, but I'm okay as it is now as well.

That seems to be the overall consensus. I was hoping my estimates on match time were going to be correct and it seemed like they were.
It is a high probability that we continue to run in this fashion.

DCHawks reacted to Jcjcjc in IHSWCA TEAM STATE BRACKETS
If we have 8 teams per division...
why not have a straightforward bracket that we can show to non-wrestling people, publish in a newspaper, put on a t-shirt, promote without sounding like weirdos, predict results without round-robin tie-breakers, etc.
Are we thirsty for a fourth/fifth match at the championships? Why not have 4 rounds: quarters, conso/semis together, conso, finals
and place six or eight?

DCHawks reacted to IndianaGirlsWrestling in 2019 HS Girls Tournaments
This year there will be 4 tournament opportunities to get your HS girls some matches other than the State series against other HS girl wrestlers.
First up is the Decatur Central HS Girls Wrestling Invitational November 23. Second is the Mac Super Duals in Maconoquah Dec. 7. Third is the Lebanon HS Girls Wrestling Invitational Dec.14. Fourth is the Henry Will Classic at Penn HS Dec. 21. Attached is a flyer for all of them except Penn so somebody get Matt Selis to pony up one. LOL.There is still a few dates open if anyone wants to host one. Directly after winter break is the Girls State qualifying Regionals January 10. The North Regional will be held at Maconaquah HS and the South Regional at Edgewood HS.
The 4th Annual IHSGW State will be held at Kokomo HS on January 17 and is sure to be a hit. It's put on by Gary Myers of Hamilton Heights.
For more information on how to get your girls some matches contact the numbers or emails on the flyers or call Jason DeLois at (317)201-8700.
Don't miss this chance to get your lady wrestlers some mat time, because one day soon there will be girls teams all across the state!

DCHawks reacted to Dave Cloud in Thanks for everything, Coach Hasseman
Franklin Community High School and the Franklin Wrestling Club have announced the retirement of Coach Bob Hasseman from the head coaching position for the Grizzly Cubs. Bob's time as head coach has brought great success for FCHS: His teams won 18 IHSAA Sectional, 11 Regional, 8 Semi-State, 18 County and 17 Conference team titles. The Grizzly Cubs were 2014 IHSAA runners-up and won the 2014 Coaches Association team title. Five Grizzly Cubs claimed individual titles during his tenure, along with numerous other place winners. In addition, Coach Hass was a dedicated freestyle official and the driving force behind the Franklin Wrestling Club.
More importantly, Bob has been a great representative for our sport. He built his program the right way and his kids always wrestled with a lot of grit. They won with class (a lot) and lost with dignity. Coach has been a great coaching colleague to many. I am very appreciative of his friendship and will miss seeing him in the corner. I wish Bob and his wife a wonderful retirement and all the things he had to put aside for all these years. This doesn't even take into account putting up with Chris Lynch all those years!
Bob, your efforts have made Indiana High School Wrestling better. Thanks!
