That’s a real statement brother.  Painful lesson.....but a valuable one.  An early cradle and extremely intelligent wrestling of backing up and down blocking, allowed a very strong...physically mature and battle tested Mazero to squeek past 14 yr old Silas by 1 point.
Admittedly....it was one of the best things to happen to Silas.  It initiated an even deeper sense of drive towards strength training, positioning, and becoming a well rounded wrestler.  Not just a dynamic athlete on his feet.  I’m hopeful every wrestler who reads this....whether freshman or upper classmen, fully realizes......wins & losses don’t define you.  Your response does.

Hey guys: I hope your as excited for the start of school as I am!!! You should be, you get to help kids!!! You are an "impactor", how can you not be excited!!   One of the best ways to stay fired up is to always continue your coaching education.   This fall, October 17-18 we have an awesome lineup we are very excited about! Thursday we have Mark Manning (head coach of Nebraska, head coach to Jordan Burroughs, James Green and Chad Red Jr.), Thursday we also have the IHSAA Rules interpretation meeting with Robert Faulkens, and we will give you a chance to have your voice heard! We will be having break out sessions to get ideas and help on "hot topics" in wrestling.   Friday we have something new to the Fall clinic.  The NWCA Leadership academy.  This teaches the head coach of a team, to act more like the CEO of a program! We will be having leaders from the NWCA come in and teach this awesome course.  Being that it is new, and we want big attendance.  We are offering some scholarships to those that email me.  These scholarships are for coaches that have not been to the fall clinic before, and will be coming with another paid coach, or veteran coach.  Email me to see if your eligible.     This is really going to be a motivating two days!   Take a look at the flier, in the link below.  The registration is in the link as well.  You can mail in your registration if needed, however we prefer signing up online, and mailing your check.  https://docs.google.com/document/d/1quk9-_nte98dB7AGDEax6u-nL6MJmFhhBtFehAFsi_E/edit?usp=sharing   One more thing.....take a look at the attached video and see what Wisconsin Head Coach, Chris Bono, says about the Leadership academy!   Danny Struck

My vote for most dominating performance goes to Silas Allred. He pinned everyone, with the longest match going about a minute and a half. Wow

Wes......Aporeciate the acknowledgement brother.  And while you’re 100% correct regarding your point about hard work being greater than natural ability.....I only have 1 request.  DO NOT downplay my elite DNA strain brotha! 🤣
Because even though after 30 seconds the youngster has me either on my back, or too tired to continue......He still can’t hit my fastball......and he dreads putting on the boxing gloves with me!  Gotta keep him honest 😏.

I know I’m essentially echoing everyone else’s thoughts here, but having a family member on his team for the past 6 years I have had the pleasure to watch this young man wrestle on a regular basis. I just want to say I have been around a lot of high school athletes over the past 20 years. It’s easy for a kid as talented as Silas to develop an ego. I have never met a more humble, polite, appreciative young man that takes nothing for granted. While he is obviously a great athlete, he isn’t a kid that was just born with ability, he has truly worked for everything he has accomplished. It has been a pleasure to see his development and it will be fun to watch him continue his journey towards his ultimate goal.

Fully understand brother.  Admittedly......the toughest part wasn’t Silas separating himself from other interested “powerhouse” programs.  It was the phone calls to Ersland & Todd.....and of course Angel.  We think extremely highly of these guys and everything they stand for.  But ultimately.....Silas chose the program he felt would best benefit HIM regarding his goals.  He will be a tremendous ambassador for our state’s Wrestling everywhere the sport, his hard work & health, and God takes him.

Really appreciate everyone’s support and encouraging words.  They won’t be forgotten gentlemen.

Sounds more to me like you’re probably unaware of the process.  Matches are paired using a formula between the 4 Regionals and their placements.  I realize at times it may seem like certain kids receive better draws than others.....and honestly, they have.  But it’s not because there is someone overseeing matters that ensures certain kids get an easier path, while others get the hard road.  That’s why working hard and trying to secure a #1 seed is so important.
I noticed you had just joined the site a couple weeks ago.  So my response to you is based on helping you better understand the process a bit.  And giving you the benefit of the doubt, that you’re not trying to create strife with a rival school.  Because I can attest to the fact that the individuals I personally know from SD......spill their guts year round to be the best version of themselves possible, and deserve all the success and good fortune that comes their way.
Hope this gives you some clarity.

Brian518 reacted to navy80 in Elliott Rodgers CATHEDRAL
Since most of us have a snow day today, let’s talk about an inspirational story from an outside perspective.
Elliott Rodgers of Cathedral and his rise to the top. Again, I don’t know the kid but have been following since his remarkable freshman season.
Elliott was a freshman wrestling 145 for the always tough, Cathedral team. Elliott’s record was 20-11 going into regionals, after he had just won a weak sectional. He won his first round match 7-5. Win by pin in his second match and lost in the finals 3-6.
Elliott was NOT on anyone’s radar to punch his ticket to state. His ticket round match was Antwaun Graves of Warren Central who was 35-2 at the time and ranked high in state. Elliott drew a 17-15 kid from Carmel first round… in which he won 1-0 in a close match. Elliott then upset Graves in a 8-6 match that sent him to the state finals. But he wasn’t done yet, as he beat a North Central kid who was 33-12 at the time in the semifinals to send him to the Semi-State Championship match with a record of 25-13. Elliott was pinned by undefeated Boone Welliever in one minute. Great story right? Kid has a killer day and performs well…really well. But, is it really a Cinderella story if it happens again?
Elliott drew Corban Pollitt of Col. East first round at state. Corban was 34-12 but was part of the elite CE wrestling team. Elliott pulls out the win 5-3 and advances to the second state. Elliott then beats Mason Winner (38-4) 3-0 to advance to the semi-finals. Elliott then lost 1-4 to Jason Crary of Munster and lost by pin to Welliever for 3rdand 4th. Elliott finished his freshman season 27 wins and 15 losses and a 4thplace finish on the podium.
No imposter syndrome for Elliott… a kid who out performed his skill level? A kid who never placed in middle school state (according to track).
Elliott comes back for his sophomore season and wins Semi-State with a record of 35 wins and 5 losses. He took 5that the Al Smith and DNP at the IHPO.
Eliott went on to finish 2ndwith 2-1, 3-2, and 8-4 wins to eventually lose by TF to Brayton Lee in the finals. Elliott finished with 38 wins and 6 losses his sophomore year and a second place finish on the podium.
As a junior, Elliott has wins over ultra-tough wrestlers Brock Ellis and Jake Schoenegge already.. but has a loss to Eli dickens and we also seen Elliott lose his #1 ranking, sliding him to #2.
You may never find a wrestler who has so many losses after two years who has placed 4thand 2nd.

Here is a kid who can teach us adults a life lesson..

You WILL fail in life, you may fail a lot, but as long as you don’t quit and keep getting better, you will be successful.

Really like this kid’s upside.  If not for the broken arm in Regional final last year, he’d likely have been a SQ or better as a freshman.  Definitely a little slept on in my opinion.  Really looking forward to seeing him make a run at things.

Perry Meridian will host its first RTC of the season Tuesday February 27 from 6-7:30.  Two guest clinicians will show some technique and then we will wrestle.  2018 State Champ Noah Warren will be on hand along with 2x champ and 3x finalist Cody LeCount.  These guys are opposite ends of the wrestling spectrum so I can't wait to see what they put together.  Enter Door 1 (main entrance), go straight and turn left to the room.

None of us are totally knowledgeable, I have been lucky enough to see a large percentage of these guys wrestle once or twice . But the only thing I am totally sure of is the fans will be the biggest winners , there will definitely be some great match ups & it will be very exciting to see some of these guys give it all they have to make it to the top of the podium. Good luck to every wrestler competing this Saturday. I look forward to seeing some great wrestling.
