Merrillville: Turkey Bar = grabbing your turkey guts when it counts, good job coach.

Crown Point:  hey some parents just met each other last year..lol.. sucks they will never be a real community

Hobart: loudest, most obnoxious crowd at EC.

EC: can we get a PA that works??? We can’t hear poop.

Officials: can’t take back 2 takedown after calling near-fall in sudden death OT.

Community Feel?  I have lived in 3 towns in Lake County growing up and Crown Point is definitely a community.  Shoot I think there was 200 people waiting in the square after Jesse won Who's #1.  Guess you just have to be part of it to know the feeling.

Coaches are top notch as well.  They not only cared about his wrestling success, but him as a person.  We definitely felt the love from community and the coaches.

Does Jesse still have one more year to qualify for junior worlds? Or is his eligibility up? If so 60kg should be perfect for him this year.  Good luck to him at big tens and ncaa's!

Yes, Jesse has another year at juniors.  The plan is to wrestle in the US open at 61 kilos.  Jesse is making weight with ease this year, but plans on getting bigger for 65 kilos.  He is going to wrestle junior trials at 65 in preparation.  Use the rest of the year to put muscle on and be a full size 141.  I doubt he ever takes a shirt.

Also he will wrestle Vito on Flo this Saturday at 12CT.

  3. Ohio state vs Northwestern at 2pm central time at Northwestern. Several region wrestlers going at it. If you haven’t had enough wrestling this weekend come get your fill.  Pretty cheap entry tickets for general admission.

Mendez will have Cannon. This is rubber match from the U23 finals 2 years ago when Jesse got hurt. You will also get the Davison brothers, Bates, and Yahya. Region Wrestlings Finest.

Has there been anyone that was a state champ at one school and then won the next year at another, the only one I can think of was Brandon Wright he started at Cathedral and finished at Warren Central with a title.

Sergio Lemley won at Mount Carmel, then won at Chesterton, then won again at Mount Carmel.

  5. From what I am hearing the entire lineup up is coming back next year.  I have also heard that they want to go with Jesse and Nic right away, but that was when they thought Jesse would be a full sized 141.  Jesse is closer to 133 then 141, so I think the summer will dictate next year.  The plan for Jesse this summer is Senior open and Junior Trails at 61 kilos(134.5).  Either way we will see a Mendez/Bouzakis back to back in some form.

Jesse can not wait to get to Columbus to start training.  GO BUCKS

You might wanna add #13 Wrestling Powerhouse St. Paris Graham was picking CP & Burg wrestlers off from that finals . Very, very good team . Good in spots Legacy Christian team . Wonder if we can get Head 2 Head vs. Graham and how Indiana did . Guessing here …. I bet Brownsburg had the most ? Idk could be wrong .

CP was 3-5 and BB was 2-4 vs SPG

On side note former Indiana State Champ Sergio Lemley will be going for 3rd place in the Walsh Ironman Tournament.  In the semi-finals he lost a close match in OT.  For those who are unaware the Walsh Ironman is considered by many to be the top in-season HS tournaments in the nation.

The kid that beat him and won that weight will be at the Carnahan this weekend.

  8. Great weekend of wrestling for several of the guys coming to this tournament.  I updated wrestler list with placement from Ironman and Grappler Gold.  12 Grappler Gold Champs and 2 Ironman Champs.  Crown Point won the Triacoff beating Cathedral in the finals 44-25.

I believe the team race will be a fun one.  I think every team has a chance to produce a champ.

Shocked that you guys pulled out of Brecksville. Would see more nationally ranked teams...numbers 6, 8, 17(us), 26, and 28 that's just the top 30. We get to see Davison Michigan(#8) three times this year, pumped to see how our guys perform!

The coaches wanted back into Al Smith.  Al Smith provides the wrestlers with a preview of some of the matches they will get at state.   Carnahan will have similar competition in our own backyard.  Best of both worlds.

  10. The mini Ironman at the Carnahan just signed Elyria from Ohio.  They have 7 in state ranked wrestlers.  Hearing that Waynesburg, PA will probably be coming as well.  They have #20 Mac Church and #2 Rocco Welsh on their squad.  This tournament is going to be really tough.

  11. 16 Nationally ranked wrestlers(3 #1’s), 79 state ranked guys(21 #1’s), and 4 Nationally ranked teams(10,11,12,&13).

Wouldn’t it just be next man up? Last year Van Ness was number 1 and the event still happened when he got hurt

Bouzakis was supposed to wrestle Crookham until he was injured last year(no match).  This year they wanted nic and Jesse to wrestle for the number 1 P4P spot, but Nic is having surgery after Worlds. So 132 will not be contested either.

Last year Van Ness was in a 4 man so they just tweaked it. There was always supposed to be another match, but Van Ness would never agree to one.

Every year there is a handful of weights that are not contested.

  13. 1 hour ago, Ahawkeye said:

And please explain "the scale" were there tense moments at weigh ins? Was The Scale missing? Was The Scale over weight? Did The Scale have to forfeit due to academic eligibility? We must know more!

The scale took out 2 potential state champs in Logan Miller and Cody Goodwin. It also had a huge effect on potential team champions.

So me being the mother of one of his opponents of course I'm going to root for my kid.. But I would just like to say Jesse is an amazing wrestler and even better individual..

Jace did not finish his high school career quite like he wanted do to an injury he couldn't control happened and Jesse by no means had to reach out to him but he did.  Jesse I don't know if you will see this but I would like to thank you and congratulate you on your 3rd 1st place finish! We love watching you wrestle and wish you the best in the future!

When Jace beat Gavin, I told my wife that it was going to be Jesse and Jace in the finals. Sad that he didn’t get to finish the tournament. Hopefully he is doing better today.

Jace was the first kid that made Jesse want to train harder. Definitely a dangerous and fun wrestler to watch. Thank you for the nice post.
